Crossed Field Velocity Selector
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1968The paths of particles passing through crossed fields are calculated, with special application to the case where the particle does not complete a cycloidal oscillation. The use of such crossed fields in velocity selectors for space flight and in the laboratory is discussed. Curves are given which help in the choice of parameters for such applications.

The velocity of the Local Group with respect to the CMBR has been determined to be about 600 km s-1. A significant difference between the actual direction of motion and the direction to the nearest large cluster of galaxies, the Virgo cluster, led astronomers to believe in the existence of a mass concentration beyond, the so called Great Attractor, and

Anomalous transport in correlated velocity fields
Physical Review E, 2010We examine different types of heterogeneous hydraulic conductivity fields to ascertain the basic structural features that dominate the transport behavior. We contrast two approaches to the analysis, within the framework of the continuous time random walk (CTRW), considering recent simulations of particle transport in two correlated flow fields to ...

The supergranule velocity field
Solar Physics, 1980A study of supergranule motions confirms horizontal velocities with peak values of typically 0.36 km s−1 as observed in Fe i 8688 A. These show no significant variation with height over the range of formation of C i 9111, Fe i 8688, and Mg i 8806, but there is a substantial reduction to about one-half of this at the level of Ca ii 8542.

Inertia is known to play a significant role in the upper part of the respiratory tract. Additionally, an accurate description of the air velocity field in the branches can be useful in many situations, for example if one aims at investigating the deposition process of sprays.

The far–field Oseen velocity expansion
Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 1998Consider uniform steady incompressible fluid flow in an unbounded domain past a fixed closed body. In the far field the Oseen equations approximately hold. We compare the Oseen velocity and pressure expansions in the far field for two- and three-dimensional flow by using two approaches: the first decomposes the velocity into a potential velocity and a ...

Velocity field diagram of human gait
Clinical Biomechanics, 1989The gaits of 46 healthy adults were analysed. Subjects were requested to walk at five speeds varying from very slow to very fast. For each subject, the mean values of velocity, stride length and stride frequency were then used to make a velocity field diagram (VFD).

Instantaneous velocity field characterization through stacking velocity variography
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2001, 2001Summary A key step in a seismic velocity study involves velocity interpolation, particularly when a true integration between seismic and well velocities is required. Additionally, velocity can be seen as a measurement of the vertical instantaneous velocity field, while stacking derived velocity, even when corrected by the cable length, is an integral ...

Diffusion by a Random Velocity Field
The Physics of Fluids, 1970Single-particle diffusion in a multivariate-normal, incompressible, stationary, isotropic velocity field is calculated in two and three dimensions by computer simulation and by the direct-interaction approximation. The computer simulations are carried out by storing the velocity field as a set of Fourier components and synthesizing in physical space ...
