Velocity Measurements in Metallic Melts
Volume 1: Symposia, Parts A and B, 2005Various developments of velocity measuring techniques, their tests in different liquid metals, and applications in hot melts are reported. A Mechano-Optical Probe (MOP) performing local measurements up to temperatures of about 700°C has been developed and successfully tested.

Interpretation of the velocity measurement ballistocardiogram
American Heart Journal, 1953Abstract 1. 1. A portable electromagnetic ballistocardiograph was used to study three groups of individuals: normal persons, patients confined to a hospital and convalescing from noncardiac disease, and patients with obvious cardiac disease. 2. 2. The records were analyzed by four methods: (a) presence of so-called early M or late M pattern, (

Angular velocity measuring interferometer
Applied Optics, 1989A novel optical system to measure angular velocity based on the Doppler effect is presented. The system was developed to investigate the effect of rotation in the process of experimental modal analysis.

Whether the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets are shrinking, growing or in equilibrium has become the subject of current scientific investigations because such changes would be of worldwide importance. For instance, melting of the two ice sheets would cause a rise in sea level of as much as 70 m (R H Thomas et al 1985 NASA Tech. Memo.

Differential doppler velocity measurements
IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1969Observed signal characteristics and measurement accuracy are described for a recently developed noncontacting optical velocity sensing method as applied to extended moving surfaces. This method is based on an optical heterodyne measurement of the difference between two Doppler shifts which are produced in the light scattered through two different ...

Measurements of phase velocity and group velocity in human calcaneus
Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, 2000Ultrasonic velocity in calcaneus correlates highly with bone mineral density, which is a good predictor of osteoporotic fracture risk. Several commercial bone sonometers perform a velocity measurement based on the transit time of a broadband pulse to assess skeletal status.

The Measurement of Wind Velocity
Aeronautical journal (London, England : 1897), 1913The essential points of any anemometer are that it should be correctly calibrated and should read accurately over the whole range through which it is to be used, and that the calibration should not alter with time. The actual calibration of an anemometer by a direct comparison of its readings with its rate of movement through the air is a matter of ...

A method for measuring the modu lus of elasticity of fibers and films by sonic means is described, and the results of an exploratory study of this modulus in various nat ural and synthetic fib ers and films are given. The method is based on the equation for the prop agation of longitudinal (sound) waves in elastic materials, which expresses the ...

Fluid flow—liquid or gas—occurs in most processes. In applications where the details are important, the fluid velocity needs to be measured as a field variable. A detailed velocity map may be required for optimizing the fluid flow system from the view point of pressure drop and the consequent pumping power requirement.
