On the velocity field associated with potential vorticity
Dynamics of Atmospheres and Oceans, 1989Abstract In order to extend to the small but finite Froude number case the wave/horizontal-vortex decomposition derived by Riley et al. and Lilly, we propose two sets of equations that define diagnostically the non-propagating and propagating parts of the motion; the former part is characterized by its containing all of the potential vorticity of the

Relationship between Velocity-Dependent Potentials and Hard-Core Potentials
Physical Review, 1962>It is shown that, outside the range of the velocity dependence, the two- body wave function resulting from a repulsive velocity-dependent force is exactly the same as that produced by an angular-momentum dependent potential outside a hard core, (auth)

Extended Velocity Potential Wave Kinematics
Journal of the Waterway, Port, Coastal and Ocean Division, 1981A double Fourier series expansion of the velocity potential for water waves was used to treat nonlinear single harmonic waves and irregular waves measured in the ocean test structure experiment. The (extended) velocity potential (EXVP) satisfies the governing hydrodynamic equations in the body of the water and matches the boundary conditions at the ...

Distribution of velocities of potentially hazardous objects
Cosmic Research, 2012Velocities of potentially hazardous objects (asteroids and comets) approaching the Earth are studied. It is shown that for an overwhelming majority of objects the velocity of approach does not exceed 40 km/s. The acceptability of this estimate for design and manufacturing of instruments for detecting hazardous celestial bodies is discussed.

Proposed Weber potential with absolute velocities
Foundations of Physics Letters, 1995The Weber potential U is limited to relative velocities between charges V less than\(\sqrt {2c} \) and fails when V→2c. If the relative velocity of action between charges is c, then U equals the root-mean-square average of the retarded and advanced Coulomb potential.

Evolution of the velocity field in model potentials
Astronomy Letters, 2005We consider the evolution of the structure of the velocity field formed by the loops of the trajectory in a generalized Henon-Heiles model potential. Box-shaped orbits alternating with periodic trajectories are shown to dominate at low values of the energy integral. Signatures of shell-and tube-shaped structures appear as the energy increases.
