Observation of Edge‐Confined Acoustic Hyperbolic Polaritons in van der Waals Materials
This work demonstrates a new type of light wave—edge‐confined acoustic hyperbolic polaritons—in hexagonal boron nitride on gold. These waves travel along crystal edges with nanoscale confinement and strongly interact with molecular vibrations, enabling highly sensitive detection of tiny molecular layers.

Theoretical Modeling and Application of Surface Drill String Torsion Pendulum Steering Drilling
In slide steering drilling, the torsion pendulum of the drill string can change the static friction between the wellbore and the drill string during the drilling process to a sliding friction, thus effectively reducing the drilling friction and ...

Nonlinear Static Analysis of Riserless Sampling Drill String in Ultra-deepwater of South China Sea
With the load effects of current, wave, soil, drifting of drill ship during the sampling drilling process, the rope type drill string has very complex static characteristics featuring geometric nonlinearity and contact nonlinearity.

Economic Viability of Photovoltaic Systems Providing Frequency Containment Reserve
This article investigates the feasibility of photovoltaic (PV) systems providing frequency containment reserve (FCR) in the Netherlands. The economic analysis demonstrates that a PV plant can profitably participate in FCR without battery storage by maintaining an active power reserve.

The swing of the riser in deep-water drilling can significantly impact the drill string. In this study, we establish a riser model that considers the combined disturbance of periodic dynamic wind and wave loads. By coupling it with the drill string model,

Traction, deformation and velocity of deformation in a viscoelastic string
In this paper we consider a viscoelastic string whose deformation is controlled at one end. We study the relations and the controllability of the couples traction/velocity and traction/deformation and we show that the first couple behaves very like as in the purely elastic case, while new phenomena appears when studying the couple of the traction and ...

Combining machine learning and probabilistic statistical learning is a powerful way to discover and design new materials. A variety of machine learning approaches can be used to identify promising candidates for target applications, and causal inference can help identify potential ways to make them a reality.

Large Language Model in Materials Science: Roles, Challenges, and Strategic Outlook
Large language models (LLMs) are reshaping materials science. Acting as Oracle, Surrogate, Quant, and Arbiter, they now extract knowledge, predict properties, gauge risk, and steer decisions within a traceable loop. Overcoming data heterogeneity, hallucinations, and poor interpretability demands domain‐adapted models, cross‐modal data standards, and ...
