It's Time to Define the Global Burden of Velopharyngeal Insufficiency.

The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal

Can MRI Replace Nasopharyngoscopy in the Evaluation of Velopharyngeal Insufficiency?

The Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal
Objective To investigate whether flexible nasopharyngoscopy, when performed in addition to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), influences the type of surgery selected or success of surgery in patients with velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI).

Implementation of a Modified Enhanced Recovery Protocol in the Surgical Management of Pediatric Velopharyngeal Insufficiency

FACE, 2022
Background: We have recently shown that the use of a modified enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol in primary cleft palatoplasty decreases perioperative narcotic utilization and length of stay (LOS) while allowing quicker return to oral intake.

Early Cleft Palate Repair is Associated With Lower Incidence of Velopharyngeal Insufficiency Surgery

The Journal of craniofacial surgery (Print)
Background: The timing of primary repair in nonsyndromic cleft palate remains controversial. Recent evidence suggests earlier repair is associated with a lower incidence of velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI). The authors aim to evaluate these findings in

Velopharyngeal insufficiency following palatine tonsillectomy

European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 1994
Although adenotonsillectomy is usually considered a minor operation, numerous uncommon but severe complications have been described. Even tonsillectomy alone can cause velopharyngeal insufficiency (VPI). We describe two cases in which severe VPI was noted after palatine tonsillectomy was performed because of recurrent peritonsillar abscesses.
