Uncomplicated percutaneous IVC filter removal following implantation time of 6033 days

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports, 2020
Most patients have a time limited indication for inferior vena cava filtration. When the indication has expired, a retrievable inferior vena cava filter should be removed percutaneously, unless the risks of retrieval outweigh the benefits.

Study of helical flow inducers with different thread pitches and diameters in vena cava. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Pulmonary embolism is a severe, potentially life-threatening condition. Inferior vena cava filters have been used to prevent recurrent pulmonary embolisms.

Infected aortic pseudoaneurysm caused by an inferior vena cava filter

open access: yesAcute Medicine & Surgery, 2022
Background Inferior vena cava filters are widely used to prevent pulmonary embolism, but they can cause serious complications. Case Presentation A 45‐year‐old man with multiple abscesses was transferred to the emergency department from another hospital ...

Vena cava filters and inferior vena cava thrombosis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery, 2007
Retrievable vena cava filters (R-VCF) are a recent addition to the therapeutic armamentarium for the prevention of pulmonary embolism. However, unlike permanent vena cava filters (P-VCF), outcomes data are limited regarding complication rates. This was a retrospective comparative analysis of consecutive patients undergoing placement of R-VCF vs P-VCF at

Inferior Vena Cava Filters [PDF]

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, 2006
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains a common disease with significant clinical impact upon our patients. Diagnostic challenges occur because of the nonspecific nature of the presenting symptoms. The advent of multidetector computed tomography, methods to stratify patients into VTE risks (low, intermediate, high) along with serological assays (D-dimers)

ALK1 controls hepatic vessel formation, angiodiversity, and angiocrine functions in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia of the liver

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Hepatic endothelial Alk1 signaling protects from development of vascular malformations while maintaining organ‐specific endothelial differentiation and angiocrine portmanteau of the names Wingless and Int‐1 signaling. Abstract Background and Aims In hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), severe liver vascular malformations are associated with ...

Interleukin‐18 signaling promotes activation of hepatic stellate cells in mouse liver fibrosis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Interleukin‐18 signaling promotes activation of hepatic stellate cells in mouse liver fibrosis. Abstract Background and Aims Nucleotide‐binding oligomerization domain‐like receptor‐family pyrin domain‐containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation has been shown to result in liver fibrosis.

Emergence of highly profibrotic and proinflammatory Lrat+Fbln2+ HSC subpopulation in alcoholic hepatitis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Lrat+ quiescent hepatic stellate cells (qHSC) give rise to Lrat+Fbln2+ activated HSC (aHSC) in alcohol‐associated hepatitis and this subpopulation is highly profibrotic, inflammatory, and immunoregulatory based on their single cell transcriptomic profile. Abstract Background and Aims Relative roles of HSCs and portal fibroblasts in alcoholic hepatitis (

The Clinical Rationale for the Sentry Bioconvertible Inferior Vena Cava Filter for the Prevention of Pulmonary Embolism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The Sentry inferior vena cava (IVC) filter is designed to provide temporary protection against pulmonary embolism (PE) during transient high-risk periods and then to bioconvert after 60 days after implantation.

Inferior vena cava filters

open access: yesCanadian Medical Association Journal, 2015
Under fluoroscopic guidance, IVC filters are placed percutaneously via the jugular or femoral vein. Current guidelines recommend use in patients with known venous thromboembolism who have an absolute contraindication to anticoagulant therapy (e.g., patients with hemorrhagic stroke or ...
