In the endosymbiont-bearing bivalve Loripes lucinalis, spermatogenesis is similar to that described for numerous bivalve species and leads to the formation of an aquasperm. The head and midpiece measure 10.5 +/- 1.5 microns in length. The head is made up of a cylindrical nucleus slightly tapered apically and capped by a short conical acrosome.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Solen grandis that lives in sub-tidal waters and being buried in muddy to fine sand substrates, is described in this paper. The mitogenome (16,794 bp) consists of 12 protein-coding genes (loss of ATPase subunit 8), 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes and 1 putative control region.

The clam Lutraria sieboldii is a commercially important bivalve species, which has been suffering from severe population decline due to overexploitation.
