Multifocal Colonic Masses as a Presentation of Secondary Extramedullary Plasmacytoma in Relapsing-Refractory Multiple Myeloma: A Case Report and Review of Literature. [PDF]

open access: yesJGH Open
ABSTRACT Background Multiple myeloma (MM) is a common plasma cell malignancy; however, extramedullary multiple myeloma (EMM) is an aggressive phenotype in which malignant plasma cells proliferate outside of the bone marrow. Aims Extramedullary plasmacytomas (EMP) are uncommon and gastrointestinal involvement is exceedingly rare. Case Presentation Here,

Differential peritoneal resident macrophage depletion and omental milky spot disruption after high versus low clodronate-loaded liposome dose treatment. [PDF]

open access: yesImmunol Cell Biol
In this study, we found that intraperitoneal injection of a high (standard) clodronate‐loaded liposome dose induced persistent peritoneal macrophage depletion, paralleled by marked inflammation and compromised omental integrity. Conversely, low liposome dose caused transient macrophage depletion, low inflammation and no omental alterations, ensuring ...

Clinical/pathological features and survival outcomes of extra-pulmonary neuroendocrine carcinomas: A retrospective single-center series. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Neuroendocrinol
Abstract Poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs) are rare malignancies with a dismal prognosis, few therapeutic options, and a lack of predictive factors. We describe a large series of extra‐pulmonary (EP) NEC patients from a neuroendocrine neoplasm (NEN) referral center, aiming to improve the clinical management of these diseases ...

Germline variants in CDKN2A wild-type melanoma prone families. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Oncol
Among melanoma‐prone families, wild‐type for CDKN2A and CDK4, some have pathogenic variants in genes not usually linked to melanoma. Furthermore, rare XP‐related variants and variants in MC1R are enriched in such families. Germline pathogenic variants in CDKN2A are well established as an underlying cause of familial malignant melanoma. While pathogenic

Molecular and phenotypic characteristics influencing the degree of cytoreduction in high‐grade serous ovarian carcinomas

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 12, Issue 13, Page 14183-14195, July 2023., 2023
New biomarkers to guide surgical management of primary ovarian cancer are warranted. By adding data from DNA sequencing to phenotypic traits we demonstrate that molecular biomarkers adds value to the pre‐operative stratification process. A potential preoperative risk stratification model that might increase the accuracy is suggested.

Capturing the Spirit of Bureaucratic Images: Photo IDs, Biometrics, and Passing in Border‐Free Europe

open access: yesVisual Anthropology Review, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 250-267, Spring 2023., 2023
ABSTRACT This article looks at how the biometric surveillance of migrants in the European Union interweaves border‐passing with the embodied capacity to pass as, or against, one's bureaucratic image. Despite biometrics' promise to eliminate photographic mediation, photo IDs are embedded in biometric regulation, which further entangles bodies and ...
