Recurrent Myopericarditis and Fulminant Cardiogenic Shock Due to Autoimmune Polyglandular Syndrome 2

open access: yesAnnals of Internal Medicine: Clinical Cases, 2023
A 34-year-old man presented with acute pericarditis and a small pericardial effusion but rapidly decompensated into cardiac tamponade and fulminant cardiogenic shock, requiring venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation cannulation.

Arterial Carbon Dioxide and Acute Brain Injury in Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

open access: yesASAIO journal (1992), 2022
Acute brain injury (ABI) occurs frequently in patients receiving venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO). We examined the association between peri-cannulation arterial carbon dioxide tension (PaCO2) and ABI with granular blood gas data.

Regional outbreak of parvovirus B19 acute myocarditis in preschool children

open access: yesPediatric Investigation, EarlyView.
We recently came across an outbreak of parvovirus B19 related acute myocarditis in preschool children in a specific region in northern Greece. The children exhibited serious morbidity and mortality. All children had very poor left ventricular ejection fraction and required inotropic intensive care unit support.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation with multiple-organ failure: Can molecular adsorbent recirculating system therapy improve survival? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BACKGROUND: Liver dialysis, molecular adsorbent recirculating system (MARS) particularly, has been used in liver failure to bridge to transplantation.

Time course, factors related to, and prognostic impact of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane flow in cardiogenic shock [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) is currently one of the most used devices in refractory cardiogenic shock. However, there is a lack of evidence on how to set the 'optimal' flow.

Association of Aortic Root and Valve Morphology With De Novo Aortic Valve Regurgitation After Implantation of Left Ventricular Assist Device

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Large preoperative aortic virtual basal ring diameter to geometric height ratio may be a novel risk factor for de novo aortic insufficiency after durable LVAD implantation and assist in determining surgical indications for concomitant aortic valve procedures with LVAD implantation.

Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) is a method of resuscitation in which venoarterial (VA) extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO) is initiated during refractory cardiac arrest. ECPR promises to enhance outcomes after cardiac arrest by

Predictors associated with mortality of extracorporeal life support therapy for acute heart failure: single-center experience with 679 patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Background: Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) therapy is increasingly used for cardiac and respiratory support postcardiotomy, refractory cardiogenic shock and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Markers of Brain Damage in Severe Concomitant Injury

open access: yesОбщая реаниматология, 2010
The paper describes a clinical case of early enteral feeding with an immune formula in a patient with significant heart failure after cardiosurgical intervention who is on venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

Machine learning‐based prediction of bleeding risk in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation patients using transfusion as a surrogate marker

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The increasing use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has highlighted challenges in managing bleeding complications. Optimal transfusion strategies remain uncertain for this diverse patient group, necessitating accurate predictive tools.
