A multicore parallel algorithm for multiscale modelling of an entire human blood circulation network [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The presented multi-scale, closed-loop blood circulation model includes arterial, venous, and portal venous systems, heart-pulmonary circulation, and micro-circulation in capillaries. One-dimensional models simulate large blood vessel flow, whereas zerodimensional models are used for simulating blood flow in vascular subsystems corresponding to ...

Congestion Avoidance in Computer Networks with a Connectionless Network Layer [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1998
Widespread use of computer networks and the use of varied technology for the interconnection of computers has made congestion a significant problem. In this report, we summarize our research on congestion avoidance. We compare the concept of congestion avoidance with that of congestion control.

Hot spot formation in tumor vasculature during tumor growth in an arterio-venous-network environment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
Hot spots in tumors are regions of high vascular density in the center of the tumor and their analysis is an important diagnostic tool in cancer treatment. We present a model for vascular remodeling in tumors predicting that the formation of hot spots correlates with local inhomogeneities of the original arterio-venous vasculature of the healthy tissue.

Automated Detection and Type Classification of Central Venous Catheters in Chest X-Rays [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Central venous catheters (CVCs) are commonly used in critical care settings for monitoring body functions and administering medications. They are often described in radiology reports by referring to their presence, identity and placement. In this paper, we address the problem of automatic detection of their presence and identity through automated ...
