The venous flow augmentation pump: A solution to venous congestion

Microsurgery, 1988
AbstractVenous congestion is a well‐recognized cause of failure of survival of replanted digits. When re‐exploration of a venous congested digit is not possible, an alternate solution is presented. A description of the venous flow augmentation pump is provided, along with a preliminary case report of its successful use.

Accelerated myelination associated with venous congestion

European Radiology, 2005
Magnetic resonance imaging is currently the gold standard in the assessment of brain myelination. The normal pattern of brain myelination conforms to a fixed chronological sequence. Focal accelerated myelination is a usual pathological state and previously has only been associated with Sturge-Weber syndrome.

Venous distensibility during pregnancy determined by graded venous congestion

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1976
The increase in volume of the human calf and forearm during pregnancy resulting from graded venous congestion has been measured plethysmographically in the raised leg and forearm of 10 recumbent subjects during and after pregnancy. Normal pressure volume curves were determined and the alterations in this curve over the various stages of gestation were ...

Current Heart Failure Reports, 2011
Systemic venous congestion is one of the hallmarks of the syndrome of heart failure that results from activation of different deleterious neurohormonal pathways. Apart from contributing to patients' symptoms and hospital admissions, growing evidence suggests that congestion itself drives further heart failure progression.

Migraine Aggravation Caused by Cephalic Venous Congestion

Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, 2003
Background.—Cerebral venous distension is thought by some to serve as a source of migraine pain. Previous investigators have tried to modify pain intensity by induction of additional venous congestion via compression of both internal jugular veins (Queckenstedt's maneuver).
