High‐Resolution and Real‐Time In Situ Generation of Cellular Spheroids by Laser‐Assisted Bioprinting for Guided Microvascularization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐injection laser‐assisted bioprinting enables ultrafast and precise patterning of small endothelial cell spheroids by injecting a highly concentrated single‐cell suspension into GelMA/ColMA hydrogels. In co‐culture with fibroblasts, controlled pre‐vasculogenic network formation is obtained at microscale resolution.

Engineering Strategies for Stable and Long‐Life Alkaline Zinc‐Based Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Alkaline zinc‐based flow batteries face persistent challenges from unstable zinc deposition, including dendrite growth, passivation, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution, which severely limit cycling stability. Current research addresses these issues through coordinated electrode structuring, electrolyte regulation, and membrane design to control zinc ...

Developmental venous anomaly coexisting with arteriovenous malformation: a case report

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery
We describe a rare case of a developmental venous anomaly associated with an arteriovenous malformation. A 20-year-old male presented with seizures and was diagnosed with left parietal arteriovenous malformation combined with developmental venous anomaly

Abernethy malformation: Our experience from a tertiary cardiac care center and review of literature

open access: yesAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology, 2019
Abernethy malformation, also called as congenital extrahepatic portosystemic venous shunt, is a rare anomaly involving the portal venous system. Although rare, it is increasingly being reported and is important to diagnose given the adverse clinical ...

Angiographic Embolization with Histoacryl in Combination with Direct Injection of Bone Cement of an Intraosseous Venous Malformation of the Mandible: Report of a Case with 22-Year Follow-Up

open access: yesCase Reports in Vascular Medicine, 2022
Vascular malformations of the maxillofacial region are unusual, and they occur more rarely in bone than in soft tissue. Mandibular intraosseous vascular lesions represent 0.5-1.0% of all bone tumors, and they are classified as venous malformation ...

Structure Formation in Butterfly Scales: Interplay of Genetic Control, Mechanical Instabilities, and Dynamic Material Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Butterfly wing scales are intricate cuticular functional nanosctructures. This perspective suggests that spatially varying material properties, cytoskeletal constraints, and growth‐driven mechanical instabilities shape the resulting nanoscale architectures created from single cells.

Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...

Nd:YAG Laser Treatment of Massive Tongue Venous Malformation: A Case Report

open access: yesEar, Nose & Throat Journal
Venous malformations (VM) are slow-flow vascular lesions that result from morphogenesis errors. Composed of dysfunctional veins lacking smooth muscle cells, VMs grow slowly and may initially be managed by observation.

Translational Considerations for Injectable Biomaterials and Bioscaffolds to Repair and Regenerate Brain Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The repair and regeneration of brain tissue faces both biological and technical challenges. Injectable bioscaffolds offer new opportunities to stimulate tissue regrowth in the brain by recruiting neural stem cells. Here, the translational issues are reviewed that need to be address to advance this promising new therapeutic approach from the bench to ...
