Treatment of cancer‐associated venous thromboembolism: 12‐month outcomes of the placebo versus rivaroxaban randomization of the SELECT‐D Trial (SELECT‐D: 12m)

open access: yesJournal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2020
The Anticoagulation Therapy in Selected Cancer Patients at Risk of Recurrence of Venous Thromboembolism (SELECT‐D) trial demonstrated reduction in recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) but increased bleeding with rivaroxaban compared with dalteparin for

A Benchmark, Expand, and Calibration (BenchExCal) Trial Emulation Approach for Using Real‐World Evidence to Support Indication Expansions: Design and Process for a Planned Empirical Evaluation

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Real‐world evidence involving healthcare database studies is well established for making causal inferences in post‐market drug safety studies and methods, data, and research infrastructure for evaluating effectiveness have advanced in recent years. The rapidly expanding field of etiologic research using insurance claims and electronic health records ...

Deformation Mechanics of Self-expanding Venous Stents: Modelling and Experiments [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Deformation properties of venous stents based on braided design, chevron design, Z design, and diamond design are compared using in vitro experiments coupled with analytical and finite element modelling. Their suitability for deployment in different clinical contexts is assessed based on their deformation characteristics. Self-expanding stainless steel

Venous Thromboembolism in Progress [PDF]

open access: yesMayo Clinic Proceedings, 2011
A 67-year-old man with a history of inferior infarction was admitted to our hospital because of a near-syncopal episode, sudden dyspnea, and right-sided pleuritic chest pain. On physical examination, the patient appeared in distress with a blood pressure of 79/58 mm Hg and a heart rate of 123 beats/min.

Impact of Menstrual Cycle and Oral Contraceptives on Haematological and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Highly Trained Female Athletes

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
In highly trained female athletes, haematological and inflammatory biomarkers were found to be independent of menstrual cycle phase, but oral contraceptive use increased transferrin, reticulocyte count and triglycerides and decreased interleukin‐6.

Bayesian statistical models to explore the use glucometer measurements of capillary blood sugar for OGTT Tests [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
A common test for the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes is the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT). Recent developments in the study of OGTT tests have framed it as a Bayesian inverse problem. These data analysis advances promise great improvements in the descriptive power of OGTTs.

Venous thromboembolism in cancer patients: report of baseline data from the multicentre, prospective Cancer-VTE Registry

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2020
Background The Cancer-VTE Registry evaluates the occurrence and management of venous thromboembolism in Japanese participants with major solid tumors. Using Registry data, we evaluated the frequency of concurrent venous thromboembolism in cancer patients

Treatment of venous thromboembolism [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2005
This review on the treatment of patients with venous thromboembolic disease consists of three sections. The first section describes the epidemiology, natural history and reasons for treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE), as well as a short overview on the evaluation of the use of antithrombotic agents and the spectrum of treatment options.
