Natural Ventilation Enhancement of a Roof Solar Chimney with Wind-Induced Channel

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
A novel roof solar chimney with wind-induced channel was designed herein to augment indoor natural ventilation under combined action of wind and solar energy.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Assessment of Indoor Air Quality for Group-Housed Macaques (Macaca spp.)

open access: yesAnimals, 2022
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) is strongly associated with animal health and wellbeing. To identify possible problems of the indoor environment of macaques (Macaca spp.), we assessed the IAQ.

Flow Rate Dependence of Ventilation [PDF]

open access: yesBeiträge zur Tabakforschung International/Contributions to Tobacco Research, 1987
Abstract A quantitative model describing the effects of puffing conditions on the level of filter ventilation was developed and evaluated. The development of the model was based on a quadratic flow-pressure drop relationship which was validated with experimental measurements for numerous plug wraps, tipping papers, and combinations of ...

Modelling indoor air carbon dioxide concentration using grey-box models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Predictive control is the strategy that has the greatest reported benefits when it is implemented in a building energy management system. Predictive control requires low-order models to assess different scenarios and determine which strategy should be ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Investigation on the Effect of Opening Size and Position on Wind-Driven Cross-Ventilation in an Isolated Gable Roof Building

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In this study, the influence of window opening sizes and positions on wind-induced cross ventilation performance in an isolated gable roof building was numerically investigated using the k-ω SST turbulence model.

Assessing ventilation rate measurements in a mechanically ventilated laying hen facility

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2019
Gaseous emission in laying hen facilities affects animal production performance and the environment. Emission is ruled by gas concentration and ventilation rate (VR), which are the key parameters to estimate precise emission factors. In this work, VR were assessed in a mechanical ventilated laying hen facility under Mediterranean climate conditions ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...
