Enhanced Ventilation and Energy Efficiency of an Optimized Double-Channel Solar Chimney

open access: yesBuildings
This study explores the use of solar chimneys to harness solar radiation, generating a chimney effect that promotes natural ventilation in buildings. However, the performance of double-channel solar chimneys is heavily influenced by their installation ...

Identifying Respiration-Related Aliasing Artifacts in the Rodent Resting-State fMRI

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2018
Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) combined with optogenetics and electrophysiological/calcium recordings in animal models is becoming a popular platform to investigate brain dynamics under specific neurological states ...

Equations for predicting airborne cleanliness in non-unidirectional airflow cleanrooms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Equations are derived in this paper for predicting the airborne concentration of particles and microbe-carrying particles in non-unidirectional airflow cleanrooms during manufacturing.

High-frequency oscillatory ventilation in pediatric acute hypoxemic respiratory failure: disease-specific morbidity survival analysis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BackgroundMultiple ventilatory strategies for acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (AHRF) in children have been advocated, including high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV).

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Effect of the age and season of fattening period on carbon dioxide emissions from broiler housing

open access: yesCzech Journal of Animal Science, 2010
The quantification of emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities is of prime importance for determining the importance of their effect on the environment.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Study of natural ventilation in a Gothic multi-tunnel greenhouse designed to produce rose (Rosa spp.) in the high-Andean tropic

open access: yesOrnamental Horticulture, 2019
In tropical regions the production of ornamentals is developed exclusively in naturally ventilated plastic greenhouses, which sometimes leads to inappropriate microclimates with high temperatures and humidity that limit the productive development of ...

Cost effective combined axial fan and throttling valve control of ventilation rate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper is concerned with Proportional-Integral-Plus (PIP) control of ventilation rate in mechanically ventilated agricultural buildings. In particular, it develops a unique fan and throttling valve control system for a 22m3 test chamber, representing

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.
