Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repair
Journal of Laparoendoscopic Surgery, 1994Laparoscopic repair of ventral hernia can be done with advanced training. We present a case report with intraoperative photographs and description of the surgical technique.

Laparoscopic Ventral Hernia Repair
Journal of Laparoendoscopic & Advanced Surgical Techniques, 2000A retrospective study was carried out of patients who underwent laparoscopic ventral abdominal wall hernia repair (excluding groin hernias) between January 1994 and January 1999.Laparoscopic ventral hernia repair was performed on 202 patients for defects ranging from 1.5 cm to 12 cm in diameter. Of these, 35 patients had multiple hernial defects. After

Repair of Giant Ventral Hernias
Advances in Surgery, 2013Repair of huge ventral hernias is technically challenging for the surgeon and a major operation for the patient and should be performed by experienced surgeons in centers that are used to caring for patients who are commonly massively obese with significant comorbidities. Preoperative medical optimization of patients is an important part in the overall

This section covers the different types of ventral hernias including the umbilical hernia, epigastric hernia, Spigelian hernia, and incisional hernia. The technique of both open and laparoscopic ventral hernia repair is discussed, as are the most common postoperative complications. A classic case of an incisional hernia as a result of a wound infection

Obesity has become endemic, with rates of obese and morbidly obese adults increasing yearly. General, bariatric and hernia surgeons are facing more complex scenarios, with an arising proportion of patients with ventral hernias presenting with morbid obesity.

Giant Ventral Hernias and their Repair
Scandinavian Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1984A method is described for the reconstruction of the abdominal wall in cases of large ventral hernia, by employing the frontal leaf of the rectus fascia and free fascia transplant, combined with muscle transposition. The results of 14 operations have been satisfactory in 11 cases, over an average observation period of 28 months.

There are a multitude of different surgical techniques and prosthetic materials used in ventral hernia repair. As a general surgeon, it can be difficult to select the appropriate operative plan for each patient. Although surgeon experience, preference, and training should factor into any operative plan, this chapter outlines an evidence-based approach ...

Ventral Incisional Hernia Recurrence
Journal of Surgical Research, 2001During the period October 1993 to December 1996, 31 patients were operated on by the author for primary or recurrent ventral incisional hernia (VIH). Three patients were excluded from analysis because their records were unavailable for review. The median age of the 28 remaining patients at their initial procedure was 57.5 years (range, 37-78 years ...

Open mesh repair of ventral (incisional) hernia is required for symptomatic hernias not amenable to laparoscopic repair. This chapter lists the indications, essential steps, variations, and complications of mesh repair of ventral hernia. A detailed operative dictation note template is included.

Operations for Large Ventral Hernia
1984Infection of the postoperative abdominal wound not uncommonly leads to an incisional hernia at a later date, especially if the infection was not detected and drained widely early in the course of its development. Blomstedt and Welin-Berger studied 279 patients for 8–24 months after cholecystectomy.
