Ventricular fibrillation is the most common mechanism of sudden unexpected cardiac death in persons with asymptomatic or symptomatic coronary artery disease. The electrophysiologic mechanisms reviewed in this article include: automaticity of pacemaker fibers, transformation of nonpacemaker into pacemaker fibers, "injury" currents and reentry.

The assessment of functional indices of left ventricular wall layers in cases with normal and high blood pressure by layer-specific strain methods [PDF]
Introduction: The arterial hypertension leading to left ventricular remodeling induces accentuated ventricular wall thickness because of higher afterload.

Correlation Between Serum Ferritin Levels and Echocardiographic Changes in Children with Beta-thalassaemia Major- A Cross-sectional Analytical Study [PDF]
Introduction: Heart failure secondary to iron overload is the leading cause of mortality in patients with beta-thalassaemia major. Prevention of myocardial siderosis is a key step to reducing the rate of mortality in thalassaemia children. Aim: To study

Short-coupled ventricular ectopics leading to cardiac arrest in a young woman
Background This case report highlights the importance of recognizing that ventricular ectopy may be a cause for syncope and sudden cardiac death, through triggered disorganized arrhythmia. In the context of syncope, ventricular ectopy should be carefully

Aortic calcification and femoral bone density are independently associated with left ventricular mass in patients with chronic kidney disease [PDF]
Background Vascular calcification and reduced bone density are prevalent in chronic kidney disease and linked to increased cardiovascular risk. The mechanism is unknown.

Recurrent Pulseless Ventricular Tachycardia Induced by Commotio Cordis Treated with Therapeutic Hypothermia [PDF]
The survival rate of commotio cordis is low, and there is often associated neurological disability if return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) can be achieved.

Usefulness of regional right ventricular and right atrial strain for prediction of early and late right ventricular failure following a left ventricular assist device implant: A machine learning approach [PDF]
Background: Identifying candidates for left ventricular assist device surgery at risk of right ventricular failure remains difficult. The aim was to identify the most accurate predictors of right ventricular failure among clinical, biological, and ...
