Are obesity and left ventricular dysfunction entwined? [PDF]
This editorial refers to ‘Evaluation of left ventricular rotation in obese subjects by velocity vector imaging’ by Y. Deng et al. , on page 424 in this issue. Our understanding of left ventricular (LV) function and its description using echocardiographic techniques continues to evolve.

The circRNA circNAB1 is downregulated in AF patient. Silencing circNAB1 promotes collagen deposition and inflammation, whereas overexpression reduces AF susceptibility. circNAB1 encodes the protein NAB1 356 that interacts with EGR1 to mitigate fibrosis and inflammation.

Pulmonary edema following transcatheter closure of atrial septal defect
We describe an incident of development of acute pulmonary edema after the device closure of a secundum atrial septal defect in a 52-year-old lady, which was treated with inotropes, diuretics and artificial ventilation.

ASB1 differential methylation in ischaemic cardiomyopathy. Relationship with left ventricular performance in end stage heart failure patients [PDF]
Aims: Ischaemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) leads to impaired contraction and ventricular dysfunction causing high rates of morbidity and mortality. Epigenomics allows the identification of epigenetic signatures in human diseases. We analyse the differential epigenetic patterns of ASB gene family in ICM patients and relate these alterations to their ...

Exploring the Influence of Parametrized Pulsatility on Left Ventricular Washout under LVAD Support: A Computational Study Using Reduced-Order Models [PDF]
Medical therapy for patients with severe heart disease often relies on left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). It is an ongoing topic of research how complications like stagnation and thrombosis can be prevented by using artificial pulsatility. We study a parametric pulse profile and its effect on the left ventricular washout using a computational ...

Diastolic And Systolic Right Ventricular Dysfunction Precedes Left Ventricular Dysfunction In Patients Paced From Right Ventricular Apex [PDF]
Background: Cardiac dysfunction after right ventricular (RV) apical pacing is well known but its extent, time frame of appearance and individual effect on left ventricular (LV), RV systolic and diastolic parameters has not evaluated in a systematic ...

Assessment of left atrial volume before and after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. [PDF]
BackgroundImpaired left ventricular diastolic filling is common in chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), and recent studies support left ventricular underfilling as a cause.

Implantable Self‐Powered Systems for Electrical Stimulation Medical Devices
In this paper, the design strategy and clinical application of ISS are discussed in depth from four aspects: the design and optimization of the energy collection module, the selection and preparation of adaptive electrode materials, the innovation of system design strategy, and the biological effect of electrical stimulation of ISS.
