Estimation of Left Ventricular Function in Patients With a Left Ventricular Assist Device
ASAIO Journal, 1995Patients with profound left ventricular (LV) dysfunction supported by a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) may have recovery of LV function, but current methods for assessing this are difficult or not readily available. A new method to estimate LV performance was tested in 6 patients on LVAD (age, 47 +/- 12 years).

Left Ventricular Function in Patients with Centrifugal Left Ventricular Assist Device
ASAIO Transactions, 1989We used blood pool radionuclide angiography to study the left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) in 17 patients with a centrifugal assist device (AD) placed because of severe postoperative LV dysfunction. During maximal LVAD flow, the 12 patients who could be weaned had a higher LV-EF than the 5 who could not be weaned (18 +/- 12% vs. 9 +/- 2%, p =

Improved Left Ventricular Function After Chronic Left Ventricular Unloading
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1996This study assessed the effect of prolonged left ventricular unloading on native ventricular function. We reviewed data from 31 patients (30 men, 1 woman) supported more than 30 days (mean, 137 days; range, 31 to 505 days) with the HeartMate left ventricular assist system.

Left Ventricular Function and Regression of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in Essential Hypertension
American Journal of Hypertension, 1993Although left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is an adaptive response to the increased load imposed on the heart in patients with hypertension, it ultimately is itself a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The influence of LVH on left ventricular function and on the coronary circulation, and the occurrence of serious ventricular arrhythmias are

Regression of hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy and left ventricular diastolic function
The Lancet, 1990The effect of antihypertensive therapy on regression of left ventricular hypertrophy and left ventricular diastolic function was investigated in 25 hypertensive patients for up to 18 months after initiation of treatment. Left ventricular mass index was calculated by two-dimensional echocardiography and left ventricular diastolic function assessed by ...

Thrombolysis, Left Ventricular Function, and Mortality
Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1991Coronary thrombolysis is now accepted as effective treatment for coronary thrombosis and myocardial infarction. The a priori hypotheses that thrombolysis works by restoring coronary patency and that coronary reperfusion preserves myocardial function have been disputed but not disproved.

Left ventricular systolic function
2020Left ventricular systolic function assessment is an essential component of the echocardiographic assessment of the critically ill patient. A wide range of diseases from sepsis to coronary ischaemia can affect the left ventricle (LV). An understanding of the events and timings in LV systole within the cardiac cycle is important, together with an ...

Left Ventricular Function in COPD [PDF]
The relationships between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and left ventricular (LV) dysfunction have been the subject of debate for several decades. Improved techniques to assess LV function have recently clarified this subject [1]. In the absence of an associated cause of left cardiopathy, the left ventricle of a COPD patient must be ...

Left ventricular and left atrial function
2015Global left ventricular (LV) function is an important prognostic parameter and is useful for therapeutic decision-making. Since its introduction, two-dimensional (2D) echocardiography has played an important role in the quantitation of LV function.

Left ventricular diastolic function
2020Abnormalities of diastolic function in the critically ill have been demonstrated to be associated with important intensive care outcomes such as mortality and ventilator weaning failure. The assessment of left ventricular (LV) diastolic function refers requires the analysis of the onset, pattern, and termination of left ventricular filling as ...
