Non-invasive indices of right ventricular function are markers of ventricular-arterial coupling rather than ventricular contractility: insights from a porcine model of chronic pressure overload.

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal-Cardiovascular Imaging, 2013
AIMS To investigate the physiological correlates of indices of RV function in a model of chronic pressure overload. METHODS AND RESULTS Chronic pulmonary hypertension (PH) was induced in piglets by ligation of the left pulmonary artery (PA) followed by

Right Heart Remodeling in Patients with End-Stage Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis: Speckle Tracking Point of View [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BACKGROUND: Data regarding cardiac remodeling in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis are scarce. We sought to investigate right atrial (RA) and right ventricular (RV) structure, function, and mechanics in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis.

Right ventricular functional assessment by three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography is useful for withdrawal from a right ventricular assist device: a case report

open access: yesJA Clinical Reports, 2017
Right ventricular assist device (RVAD) implantation is one type of surgical treatment used for right heart failure. It is important to assess right ventricular (RV) function precisely when RVAD withdrawal is considered. Although assessment of RV function

Excellent survival and low incidence of arrhythmias, stroke and heart failure long-term after surgical ASD closure at young age. A prospective follow-up study of 21-33 years [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
AIMS: Although studies have suggested good long-term results, arrhythmias, pulmonary hypertension and left ventricular dysfunction are mentioned as sequelae long-term after surgical atrial septal defect closure at young age.

Lecithin Alleviates Memory Deficits and Muscle Attenuation in Chinese Older Adults and SAMP8 Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study opens a new avenue for safeguarding cognition and muscle health, averting disability in older age, and treating age‐related pathologies through lecithin supplementation. It serves as a promising nonpharmacological intervention for the crosstalk of muscle and cognition.

Right ventricular systolic function in Nigerians with heart failure secondary to hypertensive heart disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Right ventricular (RV) dysfunction has been shown to be a major contributor to the adverse outcomes in subjects with heart failure. Few studies evaluating the right ventricle in heart failure subjectshave been carried out in Sub-Saharan ...

Neural Plasticity and Hearing‐Speech Development in Children with Auditory Brainstem Implants for Congenital Hearing Loss Due to Severe Inner Ear Malformation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Data from a prospective cohort with 112 auditory brainstem implant users are analyzed. Younger age at implantation (<3 years), less severe inner‐ear malformation (common cavity, cochlear aplasia, and hypoplasia), and more intraoperative eABR evoked electrodes (≥60%) are associated with better hearing and speech outcomes.
