Guidelines for Enhanced Recovery After Trauma and Intensive Care (ERATIC): Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Society and International Association of Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC) Recommendations: Paper 1: Initial Care—Pre and Intraoperative Care Until ICU, Including Non‐Operative Management

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols reduce length of stay, complications, and costs for elective surgical procedures. It remains challenging to implement ERAS concepts in the acute trauma patient due to deranged physiological reserve from the penetrating or blunt trauma producing altered physiology.

Effect of Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction on Left Atrial Mechanics in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

open access: yesBioMed Research International, 2015
Left atrial (LA) volumes are known to be increased in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and are a predictor of adverse outcome. In addition, LA function is impaired and is presumed to be due to left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction as a result of ...

Is subcutaneous fat tissue embolization effective and safe as a septal reduction technique in a patient with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy?

open access: yesTürk Kardiyoloji Derneği Arşivi, 2018
Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy is an inheritable cardiac disease that typically manifests with an increased left ventricular outflow tract gradient.

Measurement and interpretation of central venous pressure: a narrative review

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Central venous pressure has been a key component of haemodynamic monitoring for several decades, but its clinical utility is still debated. While central venous pressure has been used traditionally to assess intravascular volume status and fluid responsiveness, mounting evidence suggests that its absolute value alone is an ...

Manifestation of Latent Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction in the Acute Phase of Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy

open access: yesInternal medicine, 2016
Objective Left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction is a complication in 15-25% of patients with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy and sometimes leads to catastrophic outcomes, such as cardiogenic shock or cardiac rupture.

A Triple Threat: A Case Report Detailing Surgical Management for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, Flail Mitral Valve and Severe Pulmonary Hypertension

open access: yesReports
The combination of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with outflow tract obstruction, severe pre-capillary and post-capillary pulmonary hypertension, and severe primary mitral regurgitation is rare and presents distinct management challenges.

Cardiac function and coronary plaque development following masculinizing gender‐affirming hormone therapy: A prospective cohort study

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Myocardial dysfunction and the presence of calcified and non‐calcified coronary plaques are predictors of cardiovascular disease. Masculinizing gender‐affirming hormone therapy may increase cardiovascular risk, highlighting the need for prospective studies to evaluate cardiovascular outcomes during gender‐affirming hormone therapy.
