Estimating Left Ventricular Filling Pressure by Echocardiography
The diagnosis of heart failure may be challenging because symptoms are rather nonspecific. Elevated left ventricular (LV) filling pressure may be used to confirm the diagnosis, but cardiac catheterization is often not practical. Echocardiographic indexes are therefore used as markers of filling pressure. This study investigated the feasibility and ...

Aims The aim of this study is to investigate determinants of left atrial (LA) reservoir and pump strain and if these parameters may serve as non-invasive markers of left ventricular (LV) filling pressure. Methods and results In a multicentre study of 322

Influence of Right Ventricular Filling Pressure on Left Ventricular Pressure and Dimension [PDF]
The effects of alterations in the diastolic filling pressure of the right ventricle on left ventricular (LV) geometry and filling pressure were studied in six isolated, supported canine hearts. This experimental preparation permitted graded increments in right ventricular (RV) end-diastolic pressure while LV cardiac output, heart rate, and mean aortic ...

Understanding cardiopulmonary interactions through esophageal pressure monitoring
Esophageal pressure is the closest estimate of pleural pressure. Changes in esophageal pressure reflect changes in intrathoracic pressure and affect transpulmonary pressure, both of which have multiple effects on right and left ventricular performance ...

Pressure-related ventricular tachycardia
A case with syncope on exertion and paced heart block is presented. Non-sustained ventricular tachycardia was seen on Holter monitoring and reproduced repeatedly by either exercise or an injection of an alpha agonist, but not with provocative electrophysiology.

Effects of mercury on the arterial blood pressure of anesthetized rats
The available data suggests that hypotension caused by Hg2+ administration may be produced by a reduction of cardiac contractility or by cholinergic mechanisms.
