Ventricular and Periventricular Anomalies in the Aging and Cognitively Impaired Brain

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2018
Ventriculomegaly (expansion of the brain’s fluid-filled ventricles), a condition commonly found in the aging brain, results in areas of gliosis where the ependymal cells are replaced with dense astrocytic patches. Loss of ependymal cells would compromise

Maternal–fetal platelet alloimmunization: Identification of risk factors for severe neonatal thrombocytopenia

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Feto‐maternal platelet alloimmunization (FNAIT) is a rare condition (1 in 1500 live pregnancies), most commonly diagnosed based on clinical neonatal hemorrhagic manifestations, which can vary in severity. The aim of our study was to identify risk factors for severe fetal/neonatal thrombocytopenia in cases of FNAIT.

Outcomes of 87 small‐breed dogs surgically treated for Chiari‐like malformation and syringomyelia

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To report the outcomes of titanium mesh (TM) cranioplasty without polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), incorporating a deliberate gap between the foramen magnum decompression (FMD) surface and the TM, in small‐breed dogs with Chiari‐like malformation and syringomyelia (CM/SM). Study design Retrospective clinical study.

An eye on long‐duration spaceflight: Controversies, countermeasures and challenges

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Space flight‐associated neuroocular syndrome (SANS) is a consequence of long‐duration space flight and is detected in two‐thirds of astronauts. In‐flight, this can cause a change in the refraction of the eyes, requiring graded hypermetropic ‘superfocus adjustable’ glasses, optic nerve head oedema and choroidal folds.

Preterm assisted vaginal births and associated maternal and neonatal outcomes: A retrospective study in a tertiary hospital

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, Volume 174, Issue 1, Page 174-181, July 2026.
Abstract Objectives This study compares maternal and neonatal outcomes between preterm vacuum and forceps‐assisted vaginal births and evaluates preterm outcomes between those <34 + 0 weeks gestation to those ≥34 + 0. Methods This study is a single‐center retrospective cohort study of all singleton assisted vaginal births during 2014–2021. Delivery data

Congenital Myopathies and Muscular Dystrophies: A Single Tertiary Center Experience and Factors Associated With Long‐Term Outcomes

open access: yesMuscle &Nerve, Volume 74, Issue 1, Page 121-130, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction/Aims Data on respiratory, feeding, ambulatory outcomes and prognostic factors for congenital myopathies (CM) and congenital muscular dystrophies (CMD) remain limited. Therefore, in this study, we report the characteristics of a large single‐center cohort of patients with CM and CMD, focusing on long‐term outcomes and aiming to ...

In utero ventriculosubgaleal shunt placement in a fetal lamb model: Phase 1 technical insights

open access: yesPregnancy, Volume 2, Issue 4, July 2026.
Abstract Background Progressive ventriculomegaly and the resulting irreversible brain damage may be mitigated through timely diversion prenatal intervention. While ventriculosubgaleal shunt (VSGS) is commonly performed postnatally in premature infants, in utero placement is unexplored.
