Spontaneous third ventriculostomy
Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2008Spontaneous ventriculostomy (SV) is a rare condition where there is a spontaneous communication between the ventricle and the subarachnoid space as a result of hydrocephalus. Only four cases of SV through the floor of the third ventricle have been previously reported. Two further cases are presented and the literature reviewed.

Endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) is the treatment of choice for obstructive hydrocephalus. In some cases a reclosure of the ventriculostoma occurs. This could be caused by different reasons, such as operative technique, size of the stoma, scarring, or a persisting Liliequist membrane. The databases of the Neurosurgical Department of the Philipps ...

Neurosurgery Clinics of North America, 2001
Ventriculoscopy and neuroendoscopy had their beginnings in the early part of the twentieth century, when neurosurgeons were motivated by a desire to control hydrocephalus. The development of endoscopy was initially hampered by significant complications. When extracranial shunting became commonplace, endoscopy was essentially discarded by neurosurgeons.

Since its description by Dandy in 1922, several techniques have been used to perform third ventriculostomy under endoscopic control. Except for the blunt technique, in which the endoscope is used by itself to create the opening in the floor of the third ventricle, the other techniques require more than one instrument to perforate the floor of the ...

Ultrasonic Ventriculostomy Stylet
Neurosurgery, 1995I describe my design for a ventriculostomy stylet fitted with a phase array ultrasonic imaging device in its tip. Theoretically, this would allow identification of the ventricles and their exact location at the bedside, without the need for expensive stereotactic equipment.

Terminal ventriculostomy in syringomyelia
Acta Neurochirurgica, 1979The authors report their experiences with two patients suffering from syringomyelia on whom terminal ventriculostomies were carried out. The good results which can be obtained if the patient is in a relatively good neurological condition are pointed out.

Terminal ventriculostomy for syringomyelia
Journal of Neurosurgery, 1977✓ The clinical course of 12 patients who underwent terminal ventriculostomy for syringomyelia is presented. Opening the central canal at the tip of the conus medullaris is a relatively benign procedure that improves the symptoms of syringomyelia and syringobulbia.

Treatment of Ventriculostomy-related Infections
Acta Neurochirurgica, 1988The results of the treatment of 15 cases of ventriculitis related to the use of external ventricular drainage are presented. A review of the literature on the treatment of cerebrospinal fluid shunt infections combined with our data suggest the following treatment of ventriculostomy-related ventriculitis: 1.

Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy for Hydrocephalus
min - Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery, 1999The authors report on 125 patients who underwent endoscopic third ventriculostomy for obstructive hydrocephalus in three Italian Neurosurgical Centers. The series includes 77 cases of primary aqueductal stenosis, 33 with triventricular hydrocephalus due to external tumor compression, and 15 with tetraventricular hydrocephalus.
