Selective excitatory effects of γ‐glutamyl‐glycine, a glutathione metabolite, on GluN1 NMDA and mGlu5 receptors impacting synaptic plasticity

Background and Purpose Gamma‐glutamyl dipeptides are essentially produced after glutathione (GSH) degradation. While several γ‐glutamyl dipeptides have been detected in different organs and body fluids, their biological activity remains elusive. This is the case for γ‐Glutamyl‐Glycine (γ‐Glu‐Gly) which has been found in different brain areas.

Caffeylpyruvate hydrolase from the bioluminescent fungus Neonothopanus gardneri is the key recycling enzyme in the fungal bioluminescence pathway

Caffeic acid is a central metabolite in the fungal bioluminescence pathway. We identified and characterized caffeylpyruvate hydrolase from Neonothopanus gardneri (ngarCPH) and demonstrate its ability to hydrolyze fungal oxyluciferin into caffeic and pyruvic acids, confirming a complete and self‐sustained fungal bioluminescence cycle.

Structural and thermodynamic analyses of a novel β‐1,2‐glucan binding mode in the ABC transporter solute‐binding protein Chy400_4166 from Chloroflexus aurantiacus

Cyclic β‐1,2‐glucan (CβG)‐associated solute‐binding protein of type I ABC transporter was originally identified in Chloroflexus aurantiacus, a phototrophic bacterium. Crystal structures in complex with CβGs revealed unique binding modes that are fundamentally distinct from that of the short β‐1,2‐glucooligosaccharides‐binding protein.

Structural insights into xyloglucan recognition by an ABC transporter from a Gram‐positive, thermophilic bacterium

Athe_2052 is an ABC transporter substrate‐binding protein that recognizes xyloglucan heptasaccharide (XXXG), a soluble breakdown product of plant xyloglucan. The crystal structure of Athe_2052, together with binding assays and computational modeling, shows how XXXG is recognized by this sugar transporter.
