Tonic Vergence and Vergence Adaptation

Optometry and Vision Science, 1997
In the absence of an adequate visual stimulus, the eyes are typically converged by approximately 0.25 to 0.75 meter angles (MA). This vergence response (VR) was believed to reflect the level of tonic innervation to the extraocular muscles, and accordingly has been termed tonic vergence (TV).

Vergence and Strabismus in Neurodegenerative Disorders

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2018
Maintaining proper eye alignment is necessary to generate a cohesive visual image. This involves the coordination of complex neural networks, which can become impaired by various neurodegenerative diseases.

Vergence adaptation in clinical vergence testing

Optometry - Journal of the American Optometric Association, 2010
The purposes of this investigation were to determine whether vergence adaptation occurs after vergence range testing and vergence facility testing and to determine whether vergence adaptation correlates with the results of these tests.Thirty subjects participated in 3 testing sessions on different days. During each session 1 of the following was tested:

Vertical vergence movements

Documenta Ophthalmologica, 1981
In a preliminary report (Houtman et al., 1977) some of the characteristics of vertical vergence movements were mentioned. One of the most striking features appeared to be their slowness, compared to the horizontal disjunctive eye movements. This is a report of further studies on the dynamic characteristics of the vertical disjunctive eye movements ...

Measurement of fusional vergence: a systematic review

Strabismus, 2019
Background: Fusional amplitudes are important for clinical practice in diagnosing and managing binocular vision anomalies. Several measurement methods can be used to assess fusional amplitudes.

Frequency analysis of accommodation, accommodative vergence and disparity vergence

Vision Research, 1973
Abstract Engineering control analysis is used to gain some insight into the nature of the prediction operator and the synkinesis in the near response triad. The frequency characteristics of accommodation, accommodative vergence and disparity vergence systems are compared on a single subject.

Vergence eye movements

Documenta Ophthalmologica, 1974
The extensive and scattered literature on vergence eye movements is reviewed. Topics covered include the neural innervation to vergence, active versus passive divergence, muscular control, the accuracy of vergence, the interaction from vergence to accommodation, the independence of vergence and version, the sharing of responsibility with other eye ...

Saccades during symmetrical vergence

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 2007
When the eyes verge symmetrically along the median plane from far to near (convergence) or near to far (divergence), small saccades often occur. The current study aimed to: (i) characterize saccades during symmetrical vergence, (ii) describe the chronometry of saccade relative to that of vergence, and (iii) determine whether saccades mediate prefrontal
