Modelling of Aniline-Vermiculite and Tetramethylammonium-Vermiculite; Test of Force Fields
Journal of Molecular Modeling, 1999Molecular mechanics simulations in Cerius2 have been used for modelling vermiculite intercalated with tetramethylammonium and aniline cations. The published structure data obtained for these intercalated structures from X-ray single crystal diffraction have been used to test the force fields and modelling strategy for organo-clays.

Ammonium–Potassium–Calcium Exchange on Vermiculite and Hydroxy‐aluminum Vermiculite
Soil Science Society of America Journal, 2002Binary and ternary cation‐exchange reactions involving NH + 4 , K + , and Ca 2+ on vermiculite and hydroxy‐Al interlayered vermiculite (HIV) were investigated. In the case of vermiculite, NH

The Structures of Ornithine-Vermiculite and 6-Aminohexanoic Acid-Vermiculite
Clays and Clay Minerals, 1976AbstractFourier syntheses have been used to establish the arrangement of organic molecules in the interlamellar regions of a 16.10 Å phase of ornithine-vermiculite and a 16.92 Å phase of 6-aminohexanoic acid-vermiculite. The organic cations form two layers parallel to the silicate surfaces in ornithine-vermiculite and in 6-aminohexanoic acid ...

Vermiculite: A Review of the Mineralogy and Health Effects of Vermiculite Exploitation
Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, 1995Vermiculite is a mica-type mineral that is being used in increasing quantities for insulation, in composite cements, and in horticulture. No serious health risks have been found resulting from the exposure to vermiculite alone nor are any anticipated in view of its long-term chemical durability, even with respect to fibers of vermiculite.

Dehydration and rehydration of vermiculites: III. Phlogopitic Sr- and Ba-vermiculite
Clay Minerals, 1997AbstractDehydration and rehydration of a phlogopitic vermiculite saturated with either Sr2+ or Ba2+ were studied by thermoanalysis (TG, DSC, DTA) and by in situ X-ray powder diffractometry. A detailed analysis of the relationship between temperature and state of hydration of the vermiculites close to equilibrium at atmospheric pressure was rendered ...

A Discussion of the Water Content of Vermiculite
Clays and clay minerals (National Conference on Clays and Clay Minerals), 1958AbstractSelected chemical and diffraction analyses from the literature, supplemented by thermal and thermogravimetric analyses and infrared absorption observations, are utilized to construct a rational model of the water arrangement in natural vermiculites.A super cell is arranged by simple modification of the Hendricks water nets to accommodate the ...

Microwave Exfoliation of Vermiculite and Phlogopite
Clays and Clay Minerals, 2003AbstractVermiculites and phlogopites can be exfoliated by chemical and thermal treatment methods to obtain chemically inert, adsorbent, fire-resistant, low-density materials with excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties. The water content of the clay generally determines the extent of exfoliation and the presence of interstratification is ...

Genesis of Vermiculite and Mixed-Layered Vermiculite in the Evolution of the Soils of France
Clays and clay minerals (National Conference on Clays and Clay Minerals), 1961AbstractAnalysis of the argillaceous fraction of some podzolic soils and podzols of France has shown a double evolution of illite and chlorite through mixed layering into vermiculite. $ilite \to \left( {illite - vermiculite) \to vermiculite} \right) \\ chlorite \to \left( {chlorite - vermiculite} \right) \to vermiculite \\$Vermiculite is more ...

Role of vermiculite and zirconium–vermiculite on the formation of zircon–cordierite nanocomposites
Applied Clay Science, 2013Abstract The Zr 4 + –vermiculites were studied in their new role of the zircon precursor in the clay minerals mixtures which were prepared for firing of the zircon–cordierite nanocomposites. Currently there is a lack of data available about the structure of Zr 4 + –vermiculites, on which this study was performed.

Interstratification in Vermiculite
Clays and Clay Minerals, 1967AbstractVermiculite (Libby, Mont.) was ground in a Waring blender in a 1 m NaCl solution and, after removal of excess electrolyte, the clay fraction was separated by sedimentation. The clay was predominantly vermiculite: X-ray diffraction patterns of Ca-saturated and oriented specimens showed an intense and sharp 15 Å and a weak 25 Å diffraction maxima
