PEK14: A Kinesin‐4 Necessary for Male‐Derived Fertility in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Of the 61 kinesins annotated in Arabidopsis thaliana, many are still without assigned function. Here, we have screened an insertional mutant library of Arabidopsis pollen‐expressed kinesins for fertility defects. Insertional mutants for three kinesins showed a significant reduction in seed set.

Vernalization requirement of winter bread wheat modern varieties (Tritikum aestivum L.)

open access: yesPlant Varieties Studying and Protection, 2007
The study of vernalization requierement of winter bread wheat 87 modem varieties from Ukraine and Russia showed significant domination - 81.6% - of varieties with short vernalization requierement (30-40 days). Vernalization requierement differences among

ATXR5 and ATXR6 are H3K27 monomethyltransferases required for chromatin structure and gene silencing. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Constitutive heterochromatin in Arabidopsis thaliana is marked by repressive chromatin modifications, including DNA methylation, histone H3 dimethylation at Lys9 (H3K9me2) and monomethylation at Lys27 (H3K27me1).

Biomass‐Derived Transparent Bamboo Composite Films with Europium‐Based Photoconversion for Energy‐Efficient Smart Agriculture

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A biomass‐based transparent bamboo composite doped with europium efficiently converts UV light into photosynthetically active red light, significantly enhancing plant growth and providing a sustainable alternative to petroleum‐based agricultural films. The rational design of sustainable light‐conversion agricultural materials is critical for enhancing ...

Epigenomic identification of vernalization cis-regulatory elements in winter wheat

open access: yesGenome Biology
Background Winter wheat undergoes vernalization, a process activated by prolonged exposure to low temperatures. During this phase, flowering signals are generated and transported to the apical meristems, stimulating the transition to the inflorescence ...

HEAT SHOCK TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR B2b acts as a transcriptional repressor of VIN3, a gene induced by long-term cold for flowering

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Vernalization, an acceleration of flowering after long-term winter cold, is an intensively studied flowering mechanism in winter annual plants. In Arabidopsis, Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2)-mediated suppression of the strong floral repressor ...

Large-effect flowering time mutations reveal conditionally adaptive paths through fitness landscapes in Arabidopsis thaliana. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Contrary to previous assumptions that most mutations are deleterious, there is increasing evidence for persistence of large-effect mutations in natural populations.

Generalist‐pollinated Arabis alpina exhibits floral scent variation at multiple scales

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Plants that depend on animals for reproduction often use complex floral traits to attract pollinators. Floral scent is recognized as part of the pollinator attraction module and can be shaped by plant‐pollinator interactions. In recent decades, research has started to reveal the dynamic properties of floral scent, identifying patterns of spatial and ...

MANAGEMENT OF WINTER CEREAL CROPS FROM SOWING TO FLOWERING – SCIENTIFIC AND ECONOMIC CONSIDERATIONS [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Papers Series : Management, Economic Engineering in Agriculture and Rural Development, 2023
Through this paper we aimed to show that, during a vegetative cycle, winter cereal must go through a physiological process of vernalization (low temperatures), which induces and controls flowering and fruiting, also regulating the following development ...

Development and adoption of Kernza—A perennial grain crop for sustainable agriculture

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Annual cereal grains account for ~50% of human food calories, but cultivation of these crops has resulted in major environmental and social issues worldwide. For nearly three decades, researchers have been breeding intermediate wheatgrass—a perennial cool‐season grass—to serve as the world's first commercial‐scale perennial grain crop to improve ...
