Combination strategies for pandemic influenza response - a systematic review of mathematical modeling studies

open access: yesBMC Medicine, 2009
Background Individual strategies in pandemic preparedness plans may not reduce the impact of an influenza pandemic. Methods We searched modeling publications through PubMed and associated references from 1990 to 30 September 2009. Inclusion criteria were

Edges as ecological filters: Asymmetrical orientation‐specific arthropod activity across forest boundaries

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Moderate retention forestry creates structurally sharp forest edges that act as ecological filters, shaping orientation‐specific activity of ground‐dwelling arthropods. Using drift‐fence pitfall traps, we show that activity aligned with ecotones is more frequent than activity across forest–clearcut boundaries, particularly among detritivores.

Annual Research Review: Associations of socioeconomic status with cognitive function, language ability, and academic achievement in youth: a systematic review of mechanisms and protective factors

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, Volume 66, Issue 4, Page 417-439, April 2025.
Low socioeconomic status (SES) is negatively associated with children's cognitive and academic performance, leading to long‐term educational and economic disparities. In particular, SES is a powerful predictor of executive function (EF), language ability, and academic achievement.

Allowing Small Businesses and the Self-Employed to Buy Health Care Coverage through Public Programs

open access: yesInquiry: The Journal of Health Care Organization, Provision, and Financing, 2001
The large number of uninsured working Americans and the extent of public support enjoyed by employment-based health insurance argues for a coverage initiative that fosters access to affordable benefits through employment.

Imaging and genetic toolbox to study Arabidopsis embryogenesis

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Embryogenesis in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana provides a framework for understanding how cell polarity and patterning coordinate with hormonal signalling to establish the plant body plan. Following fertilisation, the zygote divides asymmetrically to generate apical and basal lineages, establishing the apical–basal axis that defines ...

Effects of L‐Tyrosine Ingestion on Endurance Performance in Mentally Fatigued Cyclists

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigated whether L‐tyrosine supplementation enhances endurance performance in mentally fatigued cyclists. Twelve recreational cyclists completed two constant‐workload tests to exhaustion cycling tests under two experimental conditions at 80% of maximal endurance power output: L‐tyrosine ingestion (300 mg/kg) under mental fatigue

Re-evaluating neonatal-age models for ungulates: does model choice affect survival estimates? [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
New-hoof growth is regarded as the most reliable metric for predicting age of newborn ungulates, but variation in estimated age among hoof-growth equations that have been developed may affect estimates of survival in staggered-entry models. We used known-

Meta-analysis of 74,046 individuals identifies 11 new susceptibility loci for Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesNature Genetics, 2013
Eleven susceptibility loci for late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) were identified by previous studies; however, a large portion of the genetic risk for this disease remains unexplained.
