Experience with video‐assisted thoracoscopic placement of pectus excavatum splints in kittens: six cases

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
Objectives This case series aims to describe the use of video‐assisted thoracoscopic surgery for the treatment of pectus excavatum. Materials and Methods Six male, intact kittens, with a median age of 3.3 months (range, 2.5 to 4 months) and median weight of 1.75 kg (range, 0.44 to 2 kg), were presented to one of two referral institutions for evaluation

Unilateral Dual‐Plane Puncture Percutaneous Vertebroplasty Reduces Re‐Collapse in Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures by Advancing Cement Delivery

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1322-1331, May 2025.
Trajectory of the unilateral dual‐plane puncture. The sagittal CT scan after surgery clearly shows the puncture trajectory of the unilateral dual‐plane puncture. The bone cement simultaneously contacted both the upper and lower end plates. ABSTRACT Purpose Evaluate the efficacy of a novel unilateral dual‐plane puncture technique in improving bone ...

Suture‐Related Delayed Epidural Hematoma Following Cervical Open‐Door Laminoplasty: A Report of Two Cases and Literature Review

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
We report two cases of delayed postoperative spinal epidural hematoma occurring on postoperative Day 7 after cervical open‐door laminoplasty. Emergency MRI showed large paraspinal intramuscular hematomas compressing the cord, and re‐exploration found loose barbed sutures with muscle bleeding.

Safety and Stability of a Combined C2 Screw Placement Strategy With Vertebral Artery Mobilization

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
An individualized C2 screw fixation strategy incorporating vertebral artery mobilization and atlantoaxial fusion cage support ensures safe, stable, and effective fixation in complex upper cervical anatomies, providing a reproducible approach for challenging craniovertebral junction reconstruction.

Persistent Erythrocytosis in a Dog With a Spinal Sclerosing Paraganglioma

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 7‐year‐old, male, castrated, mixed‐breed dog presented with right pelvic limb lameness and pain on posturing to defecate that began 1.5 years prior to presentation. Radiographs taken 8 months prior to presentation showed a small lytic lesion of the L6 vertebral body, and CBCs showed a persistently increased hematocrit (HCT) for at least 2 ...

Regional changes in cerebral blood flow between the upright and supine posture and over 3 days of bed rest

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract A reduction in cerebral blood flow (CBF) has been observed during spaceflight and bed rest. We aimed to examine the magnitude and regional heterogeneity of the decrease in CBF during bed rest compared to posture changes on Earth. Seventeen participants (age, 29 ± 9 years, 7 females) were studied in the upright and supine posture and over 3 ...

Molecular pathophysiology of chronic kidney disease–mineral and bone disorder: Focus on the fibroblast growth factor 23–Klotho axis and bone turnover dynamics

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Chronic kidney disease–mineral and bone disorder (CKD‐MBD) is a major complication of chronic kidney disease (CKD), characterized by disruptions in mineral metabolism, abnormal bone turnover and vascular calcification, which collectively increase the risk of fractures and cardiovascular disease.
