Intraoperative color-coded duplex ultrasound for safe surgical reduction of displaced hangman fractures in patients with atypical course of the vertebral artery: A case report of two patients

open access: yesTrauma Case Reports, 2022
An atypical course of the vertebral artery can be medically relevant in displaced Hangman fractures, especially if the artery course runs within the fracture gap of the C2 isthmus. During surgical reduction, the artery can be occluded inside the fracture,

Lattice Structures for Bone Replacement: The Intersection of Bone Biomechanics, Lattice Design, and Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review outlines how understanding bone's biology, hierarchical architecture, and mechanical anisotropy informs the design of lattice structures that replicate bone morphology and mechanical behavior. Additive manufacturing enables the fabrication of orthopedic implants that incorporate such structures using a range of engineering materials ...

Microendovascular Neural Recording from Cortical and Deep Vessels with High Precision and Minimal Invasiveness

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Intravascular electroencephalography (ivEEG) using micro‐intravascular electrodes was developed. Cortical‐vein ivEEG showed a higher signal‐to‐noise ratio and finer spatial resolution of somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) than superior sagittal sinus ivEEG, and deep‐vein ivEEG captured clear visual evoked potentials.

Non‐RASopathy Genetic Syndromes Identified as the Molecular Cause of Disease in Patients Previously Diagnosed With Noonan Syndrome

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Noonan Syndrome (NS) is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous condition characterized by typical facial dysmorphisms, short stature, congenital heart defects, and developmental delays. While variants in genes such as PTPN11, SOS1, and RAF1 account for most genetically confirmed cases, diagnosis is challenging due to phenotypic overlap ...

Descriptive Epidemiology From the Myhre Syndrome Foundation Registry: The Value of Self‐Reported Data

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part C: Seminars in Medical Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Myhre syndrome is an ultrarare genetic disease characterized by short stature, distinct craniofacial features, cardiovascular and respiratory fibrosis and stenosis, neurodevelopmental delays, autism, intellectual disability, and hearing loss. The natural history of Myhre syndrome is still not fully understood due to a small patient population ...

Effect of neck cut position on time to collapse in halal slaughtered cattle without stunning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This study examined the effect of neck cut position on the time to physical collapse in upright restrained halal slaughtered cattle (n = 644). Time to collapse was used as an indirect indicator of the early stages of onset of unconsciousness. Cattle were
