Extracranial Carotid and Vertebral Artery Aneurysms

Scandinavian Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1983
Extracranial carotid aneurysms are uncommon, and in the past their management has not always been satisfactory. These aneurysms may be caused by arteriosclerosis, infection or trauma, or they may be congenital. Neurologic symptoms are common. Surgery is recommended for symptomatic aneurysms in patients of all ages. Non-growing aneurysms in old patients

Traumatic False Aneurysm of the Vertebral Artery

The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1984
A case of an enlarging asymptomatic pseudoaneurysm of the left vertebral artery, resulting from a gunshot wound, illustrates the dilemma of proper treatment selection. This case was treated by ligation of the involved third portion of the vertebral artery.

ANEURYSM OF THE VERTEBRAL ARTERY

Archives of Neurology And Psychiatry, 1939
REPORT OF CASES Two cases of aneurysm of the vertebral artery are reported for the following reasons: Large aneurysms of the vertebral arteries are rare. Subarachnoid hemorrhage may be the first manifest symptom. In spite of opinions to the contrary, syphilis is sometimes the cause.

Dissecting aneurysms of the intracranial vertebral artery

Journal of Neurosurgery, 1990
✓ Among 86 patients with aneurysms arising from the vertebral artery or its branches, 24 had dissecting aneurysms. The patients with dissecting aneurysms were characteristically relatively young males. Twenty-one patients presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and three with ischemia.

ANEURYSM OF THE VERTEBRAL ARTERY

Archives of Neurology & Psychiatry, 1944
Large aneurysms involving the vertebral arteries are rare. For this reason it seems desirable to record a case of a particularly large aneurysm which gave signs of a tumor of the posterior fossa, as well as to review the recorded cases with the object in mind of elucidating a group of signs which can be regarded as characteristic of the disorder ...

Aneurysms of the vertebral artery

2011
The history of surgical treatment of aneurysms in the posterior circulation is much shorter than that in the anterior circulation, probably because of the later development of routine vertebral angiography and the prognostic uncertainty due to their rarity (1).

CONGENITAL INTRATHORACIC ANEURYSM OF THE VERTEBRAL ARTERY

Archives of Surgery, 1952
THE PURPOSE of this communication is to report successful surgical excision of a congenital intrathoracic aneurysm of the vertebral artery. Aneurysms of this vessel, while infrequent, are oftenest found in the third or intracranial portion of the vessel.1A review of the literature failed to uncover a report of a case of congenital aneurysm involving ...

Surgical approaches to aneurysms of the vertebral and basilar arteries

Neurosurgery, 1988
ABSTRACT This report details the surgical treatment of 44 patients with aneurysms of the vertebral and basilar arteries. Three different surgical approaches were utilized depending on the location of the aneurysm. These were an anterior supratentorial approach, a lateral suboccipital approach, and a combined supratentorial and ...

Aneurysms of the Vertebral Artery

1970
The first aneurysm in the posterior fossa successfully operated upon at Walter Reed General Hospital was in 19471. This aneurysm arose from the posterior inferior cerebellar artery. Since that time there have been four intracranial vertebral artery aneurysms. The origin of these aneurysms is often near the site where the vertebral artery passes through
