Orthopedic treatment of vertebral compression fractures in osteoporosis

open access: yes, 2011
Vertebral compression fracture is the most common type of fractures in osteoporosis increasing the mortality and morbidity of the systemic disease. Adequate treatment of the vertebral compression fractures is always in the focus of the national and ...

Acid‐Responsive Nanobot‐Integrated Core‐Shell Microneedles Reprogram the Degenerative Annulus Fibrosus Microenvironment Through Epigenetic Suppression of Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An acid‐responsive core‐shell microneedle system normalizes the degenerative annulus fibrosus microenvironment by consuming pathological H+, generating O2, and providing NIR‐amplified redox buffering. Mechanistically, it epigenetically suppresses ferroptosis via DNMT3A‐dependent methylation of the ATF3 promoter, relieving ATF3‐mediated repression of ...

Persistent Zn2+ Influx‐Mediated Deacetylation of ANXA2 Regulates the “Zn2+‐Autophagic Flux” and Alleviates Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zinc transporter SLC39A14 sustains intracellular Zn2+ levels to activate SIRT3‑dependent ANXA2 deacetylation at K302. This modification weakens ANXA2‑mTOR binding and releases autophagic‑flux suppression in nucleus pulposus cells. Dysregulated Zn2+ homeostasis disrupts this axis to drive intervertebral disc degeneration.

Differentiation of acute osteoporotic from malignant vertebral compression fractures with conventional MRI and diffusion MR imaging

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2017
Aim: To evaluate the role of using a single shot spin echoplanar DW sequence (SSSEP-DWI) compared to conventional MRI and contrast enhanced T1WI in differentiation between vertebral osteoporotic fractures and malignant compression fractures.

Age‐Related Lamin B1 Deficiency Activates SLC7A11‐Dependent Disulfidptosis to Impair Osteogenesis via Intercepting Mitochondrial Fission

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that age‐related LMNB1 deficiency in mesenchymal stem cells epigenetically upregulates SLC7A11, triggering actin disulfidptosis and mitochondrial dysfunction. This cascade impairs bone formation in senile osteoporosis. Furthermore, researchers identified the FDA‐approved drug naldemedine as a targeted SLC7A11 inhibitor to reverse ...

Mitochondrial Quality Control in Degenerative Musculoskeletal Diseases: Signaling Networks and Therapeutic Landscapes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial quality control (MQC) collapse redefines osteoarthritis, intervertebral disc degeneration, and osteoporosis as disorders of organelle dysfunction. Damaged mitochondria leak mtDNA and metabolites, driving cGAS‐STING inflammation, epigenetic reprogramming, and metabolic memory.
