Persistent Zn2+ Influx‐Mediated Deacetylation of ANXA2 Regulates the “Zn2+‐Autophagic Flux” and Alleviates Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zinc transporter SLC39A14 sustains intracellular Zn2+ levels to activate SIRT3‑dependent ANXA2 deacetylation at K302. This modification weakens ANXA2‑mTOR binding and releases autophagic‑flux suppression in nucleus pulposus cells. Dysregulated Zn2+ homeostasis disrupts this axis to drive intervertebral disc degeneration.

Effects of the “Spinomed active” orthosis on chronic back pain in kyphotic women with osteoporotic vertebral fractures three months and older: A randomized controlled study

open access: yesFrontiers in Pain Research, 2022
Vertebral fractures are frequent clinical consequences of osteoporosis. Considering the demographic change in Europe, the number of vertebral fractures will quite likely increase during the next decades.

STING/Type I Interferon Pathway Activation Confers Multimodal Therapeutic Benefits in Osteomyelitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
STING/type I interferon signaling counteracts osteomyelitis through coordinated control of pain, bone destruction, and abscess formation. It inhibits pathogen‐induced nociceptor activation, restrains osteoclast‐mediated bone resorption, and suppresses IL‐1β‐driven neutrophil recruitment.

The impact of vertebral fractures on quality of life in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Validity of the Italian version of mini-Osteoporosis Quality of Life Questionnaire

open access: yesReumatismo, 2011
Background: Vertebral fracture is one of the most commonly occurring osteoporotic fractures. Vertebral fractures associated with osteoporosis are a major cause of pain in elderly people and may hardly affect patient’s health-related quality of life ...

Prevalence of Vertebral Fractures, Vascular Calcifications, and Mortality in Warfarin Treated Hemodialysis Patients.

open access: yes, 2015
Warfarin inhibits vitamin-K dependent proteins involved in bone mineralization and the prevention of vascular calcification (bone Gla protein BGP, matrix Gla protein MGP).

Age‐Related Lamin B1 Deficiency Activates SLC7A11‐Dependent Disulfidptosis to Impair Osteogenesis via Intercepting Mitochondrial Fission

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that age‐related LMNB1 deficiency in mesenchymal stem cells epigenetically upregulates SLC7A11, triggering actin disulfidptosis and mitochondrial dysfunction. This cascade impairs bone formation in senile osteoporosis. Furthermore, researchers identified the FDA‐approved drug naldemedine as a targeted SLC7A11 inhibitor to reverse ...

Mitochondrial Quality Control in Degenerative Musculoskeletal Diseases: Signaling Networks and Therapeutic Landscapes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial quality control (MQC) collapse redefines osteoarthritis, intervertebral disc degeneration, and osteoporosis as disorders of organelle dysfunction. Damaged mitochondria leak mtDNA and metabolites, driving cGAS‐STING inflammation, epigenetic reprogramming, and metabolic memory.

Fuyuan Huoxue Decoction Promotes Lumbar Interbody Fusion in Rats: Role of Macrophage‐Driven Inflammation and the TLR9/NF‐κB Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fuyuan Huoxue decoction improves lumbar interbody fusion in rats while reducing inflammatory macrophage activity and supporting bone‐forming stem cells. Experiments implicate extracellular DNA and TLR9/NF‐κB signaling in early responses. These findings point to coordinated control of inflammation and osteogenesis as a potential route to stronger spinal

Sarcopenia and Sarcopenic Obesity in Postmenopausal Women: Limitations of BMI as a Predictor of Sarcopenic Obesity

open access: yesAGING MEDICINE, EarlyView.
The prevalence of sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity is large among community‐dwelling postmenopausal women, and lower body mass index is a significant predictor of both. The finding that low body mass index predicts both sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity, highlights the limitation of body mass index as a measure of adiposity in the assessment of ...

Osteoporotic vertebral fractures

open access: yesNeurosurgical Focus, 2001
Osteoporosis is a significant public health problem. Vertebral fractures are the most common fracture in patients with osteoporosis, occurring in approximately 750,000 cases each year. The fractures may cause acute or chronic pain, reduce the quality of life, and shorten life expectancy.
