Rationale Stable isotopes are a prominent tool in animal ecology where data is obtained from analyzing animal tissues, which are typically stored prior to analysis. However, the effect of decomposition on the reliability of stable isotope ratios from animal tissue prior to storage has been

Soil organic matter (SOM) is an important reservoir of energy and nutrients in terrestrial environments. The balance between SOM inputs, transformation and cycling is crucial for maintaining ecosystem health. Each step of SOM’s journey within an ecosystem is controlled by reciprocal interactions between its chemistry and bacterial communities.

A nitrogen-fixing strain identified as Klebsiella pneumonia 402-2 and two endoglucanase-synthesizing Bacillus strains were isolated from the intestines of phytophagous animals. One of the Bacillus strains was identified as Bacillus subtilis GL. Klebsiella pneumoniae 402-2 increased the endoglucanase activity of both Bacillus strains in mixed cultures ...

Research was undertaken to explore the succession of insects on a decomposing body and to identify the semiochemicals responsible in initially attracting blowflies, specifically Calliphora vomitoria, to the body. Five adult pigs were used for studies of insect succession and decomposition.
