Nanodiamonds as Bioactive Platforms to Modulate Microbial, Mammalian, and Vertebrate Systems
Nanodiamonds (NDs) are biocompatible and antibacterial nanomaterials that support mammalian cell growth while inhibiting bacterial pathogens. NDs showed strong antibacterial activity, with Escherichia coli being more sensitive than Staphylococcus aureus. At 10 mg/mL, both bacteria exhibited ~8% viability.

Vertebrate characters and the Cambrian vertebrates
Abstract The question of the developmental characters which conventionally define the vertebrates, neural crests and epidermal placodes, and their indirect identification in the fossil material is briefly discussed. Comments are made upon some presumed Cambrian vertebrate or vertebrate-related taxa, with particular reference to the most likely ...

Functional morphology of the pharyngeal teeth of the ocean sunfish, Mola mola
Abstract Many fish use a set of pharyngeal jaws in their throat to aid in prey capture and processing, particularly of large or complex prey. In this study—combining dissection, CT scanning, histology, and performance testing—we demonstrate a novel use of pharyngeal teeth in the ocean sunfish (Mola mola), a species for which pharyngeal jaw anatomy had ...

Abstract Invasive gray squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) have replaced the native red squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) across much of Great Britain over the last century. Several factors have been proposed to underlie this replacement, but here we investigated the potential for dietary competition in which gray squirrels have better feeding performance than ...
