A Straight-bladed Vertical Axis Wind Turbine with a Directed Guide Vane Row
A straight-bladed vertical axis wind turbine with a directed guide vane row has been proposed in order to enhance its torque. The experimental study of the proposed wind turbine was carried out by a wind tunnel with an outlet diameter of 1.8m. The tested

Automated Process Optimization in a Novel Triple Shaft Mixer with Adaptive Mixing Modes
A novel multi‐purpose mixer with adjustable blade angle and a coaxial stirrer is developed, providing three degrees of freedom. An optimization strategy is integrated to autonomously identify optimal operating conditions through automated tests. The current draw of the main stirrer serves as the optimization criterion, while stirrer speeds, directions,

A Low Order Model for Vertical Axis Wind Turbines [PDF]
A new computational model for initial sizing and performance prediction of vertical axis wind turbines is presented. The model uses a 2D hybrid dynamic vortex and blade element momentum approach. Each airfoil is modeled as a single vortex of time varying strength with an analytical model for the influence of the shed vorticity. The vortex strengths are

Experimental characterization of vertical-axis wind turbine noise [PDF]
Vertical-axis wind turbines are wind-energy generators suitable for use in urban environments. Their associated noise thus needs to be characterized and understood. As a first step, this work investigates the relative importance of harmonic and broadband contributions via model-scale wind-tunnel experiments.

Development of vertical axis wind turbines [PDF]
This paper summarises the work done at the National Aeronautical Laboratory (NAL) between 1975 and 1977 on the development of vertical axis wind turbines based on the Darrieus rotor. On the analytical side, a performance analysis was developed which permits the estimation of the characteristics of such machines.

Passing vehicles generate short‐duration wakes that can be redirected toward a vertical‐axis turbine. The interaction between wake structure, blade count, and rotational speed governs transient torque production. Low‐solidity configurations combined with tuned rotational speed enhance energy extraction under vehicle‐induced gusts.
