Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL)
Proceedings of the IEEE, 2013The vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is becoming a key device in high-speed optical local area networks (LANs) and even wide-area networks (WANs). This device is also enabling ultraparallel data transfer in equipment and computer systems, including storage area networks (SANs) and wide optoelectronics fields. In this paper, we will review

Red vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) for consumer applications
SPIE Proceedings, 2008There are many potential applications of visible, red (650nm - 690nm) vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) including high speed (Gb) communications using plastic optical fiber (POF), laser mouse sensors, metrology, position sensing.

MOVPE growth of visible vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs)
Journal of Crystal Growth, 2003Abstract This paper summarises the development of the epitaxial growth process for visible vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) in metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy (MOVPE). The production of these devices which are of particular interest, e.g.

Modes Distribution in Quantum-Cascade Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL)
2018 20th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2018Performance of any semiconductor laser depends on an efficiency of mutual interaction between electrical carriers and an optical field. It concerns, in particular, performance of considered here new semiconductor lasers – the quantum-cascade vertical-cavity surface-emitting diode lasers (QC VCSELs). These lasers are anticipated to exhibit advantages of

Vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) and VCSEL arrays for communication and sensing
2022Future generations of optical wireless communication and sensing systems require compact, low-cost, reliable, and highly efficient light sources capable of transmitting modulated beams across free space at gigabit per second (Gbps) data rates and pulsed beams with sub-nanosecond rise and fall times.

Transport and modulation analysis of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL)
LEOS '95. IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society 1995 Annual Meeting. 8th Annual Meeting. Conference Proceedings, 2002We present a comprehensive one-dimensional analysis of VCSELs based on self-consistent solution of laser, carrier transport and Poisson equations. Based on gain spectrum calculations and thermal analysis of VCSELs, we investigate the modulation response of VCSELs.

Use of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers(VCSELs) for spectroscopic applications
Semiconductor Lasers Advanced Devices and Applications, 1995We describe the first report of the use of VCSELs for spectroscopic applications. Using a 760 nm VCSEL tuned to one of the weak A band transitions of oxygen, a minimum detectivity of 1600 ppm was obtained, in these preliminary experiments.

Polarization Bistable Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL): Control and Memory
European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication, 2012We report on bistability in VCSEL involving two linear and orthogonal polarizations. The domain of coexistence is extended to the full current range of the device. We demonstrate control of the polarization state by perturbing optically the VCSEL. We show that the induced polarization state is recovered after having turned off and on the device.

Pseudo-high-order-mode in vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs)
SPIE Proceedings, 2002We built a test system to pick up the pattern of light beam from the VCSELs and the EL spectrum simultaneously in order to study the mode behavior when the current applied on the device increased. As a result, we observed that the light spots from the VCSEL seemd to be high-order-mode while its EL spectrum included more than one peak wavelength ...

Design and modeling of a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL)
2008 IEEE International Conference on Semiconductor Electronics, 2008In this paper, we attempt to design, simulate and characterize an InGaAs-based vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) employing InGaAsP multi-quantum wells sandwiched between GaAs/AlGaAs and GaAs/AlAs distributed Bragg reflectors using an industrial-based numerical simulator.
