Optimized Small Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT), Phase I

ASME 2021 Gas Turbine India Conference, 2021
Abstract Wind energy has become an important resource for the growing demand for clean energy. In 2020 wind energy provided more than 6% of the global electricity demand. It is expected to reach 7% at the end of 2021. The installation growth rate of small wind turbines, though, is relatively slow.

A novel magnetic levitated bearing system for Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT)

Applied Energy, 2012
Abstract In this report, a novel magnetic levitated bearing suitable for Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT) is introduced, fabricated and tested. The bearing system generates a magnetic force, which can support the weight of the wind turbine rotor. A Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation shows how low the torque of this bearing is.

Aerodynamic and mechanical system modeling of a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT)

2011 International Conference on Electrical and Control Engineering, 2011
The Savonious rotor is a slow running vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) which gets stabilized after a certain period of functioning. This work aims to assess the results of an aerodynamic study concerning a Savonious rotor. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a technique used to solve the airflow around the wind turbine rotor.

The Techniques Used for Performance Prediction of Vertical-Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs)

2018
The theoretical models that have been developed to predict forces acting on lift-type vertical wind turbine blades have been reviewed. These models were categorized into two groups: conservation of momentum-based group and vortex-based group. The comparisons of calculation with experiment between these groups which based on results extracted from ...
