Quality investigation of vertical height datum connection

Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, 1998
Abstract Usually, vertical datums have been defined by averaging sea level observations at one or more fundamental tide gauges. Since mean sea level is not an equipotential surface, different vertical datums refer to different equipotential surfaces, resulting in constant off-sets between different height datum zones.

Horizontal and Vertical Geodetic Datums

1989
In conventional geodetic systems, locations of points on the surface of the earth may be defined either by means of natural (astronomic) or geometric (geodetic) coordinates. The natural coordinates, the astronomic latitude (Φ), longitude (Λ), and the orthometric (mean sea level height (H), being gravity dependent, are conventionally referenced to the ...

Tide Level Measurements and Vertical Datum Conversion

2020
Measuring sea level is fundamentally problem of geoscience and business activities. In this chapter we will first introduce the basic equipment and principles of sea level measurement. We then discuss analysis and forecast of tide level .We explain water level corrections vertical data and transformation while those considerations should be taken into ...

Height discrepancies based on various vertical datum

2012 IEEE Control and System Graduate Research Colloquium, 2012
A vertical datum is the core information needed in deriving height or elevation of points on the surface of the earth. This information used as a starting point or zero value of height. Currently, various vertical datum used as a zero level in determination of height and depth in Peninsular Malaysia.

A Global Vertical Reference Frame Based on Four Regional Vertical Datums

Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica, 2004
A Global Vertical Reference Frame (GVRF) has been realized by means of several regional and local vertical datums (LVD) distributed world-wide: the North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD 88), Australian Height Datum 1971 (AHD 71), LVD France, Institute Geographique National 1969 (IGN 69) and Brazilian Height Datum 1957 (BHD 57).

Local Effects in the Brazilian Vertical Datum

2002
Nowadays, determining the topography of Mean Sea Level (Sea Surface Topography — SST) at the tide gauge station and its temporal variation is one of the most important aspects of defining a vertical Datum. Different approaches are used for this purpose: Oceanographic approach; Satellite altimetry associated with geostrophic levelling; Gravity ...

Brazilian Vertical Datum Monitoring - Vertical Land Movements and Sea Level Variations

2007
UFPR’s Geodetic Instrumentation Laboratory carried out several geodetic campaigns at Brazilian Vertical Datum during the last nine years. The last campaign performed in the first semester of 2005 had as main goals: calibration of two sea level sensors of the tide gauge station; periodic GPS observations at one SIRGAS station, used to materialize the ...

Unification of Regional Vertical Datums Using GPS

1996
The Baltic Sea Level (BSL) GPS project, IAG SSG 5.147, and its long-term scientific goals were described in details by Kakkuri et al. (1990). One of the goals is to unify the vertical datums of the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea. Two BSL GPS campaigns were performed in order to achieve the goals: a two week campaign in October 1990 (the first ...
