Reconciling vertical datum for seamless hydrographic data integration

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
A reconciling vertical datum is fundamental for the seamless integration of multi-source hydrographic data. Based on the analyses of the current vertical datums used for hydrograph, this paper presents a new scheme to create a reconciling vertical datum.

Short-Term Vertical Datum Variability and Vertical Crustal Movements in East Asia

Marine Geodesy, 2005
Field biological and geomorphological observations in certain East Asia coasts permit definition of Mean Sea Level (MSL) with an accuracy of ∼10 cm, that is, a vertical geodetic datum, as well as recognition of the MSL of fossil shorelines, up to a few thousand years old, mainly associated with tectonic/seismic effects.

Separation between reference surfaces of selected vertical datums

Bulletin Géodésique, 1994
This paper discusses the separation between the reference surface of several vertical datums and the geoid. The data used includes a set of Doppler positioned stations, transformation parameters to convert the Doppler positions to ITRF90, and a potential coefficient model composed of the JGM-2 (NASA model) from degree 2 to 70 plus the OSU91A model from

Fixed Gravimetric BVP for the Vertical Datum Problem

2011
This paper discusses advantages of the fixed gravimetric boundary value problem (FGBVP) for precise gravity field modeling that is necessary for a unification of local vertical datums (LVDs). Our objective is to show how inconsistencies of input gravity data due to shifts and tilts of LVDs can influence precise solutions.

Secular Geoid Rate from GRACE for Vertical Datum Modernization

2010
GRACE-derived geoid rates are studied for North-America, where the adjustment of the Earth to ancient ice sheets causes a secular geoid increase up to 1.3 mm/year. These significant geoid changes are of particular interest for establishing a new geoid-based vertical datum in Canada and other high accuracy applications.

Towards the Establishment of an Indonesian Unified Vertical Datum

2002
As the most numerous archipelago country in the world (consisting of more than 17 000 islands) Indonesia has a real need for a consistent definition of the vertical datum. So far, the practical realization of a national unified vertical datum for this area has not eventuated because of some critical limitations, among which is the geographical ...

Smoothing Out the Wrinkles in Australia's Aging Vertical Datum

• Vertical datums are a foundational piece of the positioning puzzle that allows us make sense of height measurements - they make it possible to align height data by defining where all heights are zero. But when the vertical datum is unreliable, we lose perspective on which direction is down and this can cause strange things to happen. Water can appear
