Gravity‐Dependent Modulation of Downbeat Nystagmus: Insights From Velocity‐Storage Dysfunction

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Downbeat nystagmus varies with head position, a phenomenon termed gravity‐dependent modulation. We aimed to clarify its mechanism using a velocity‐storage model. Methods In 10 patients with downbeat nystagmus due to cerebellar disorders, we recorded eye movements at different pitch‐ and roll‐axis head positions.

Deep chlorophyll maximum in temperate lakes with different trophic conditions − a rare or common phenomenon?

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems
Deep chlorophyll maxima (DCM) are a common phenomenon in low-trophic stratified lakes, and there is much less information about the occurrence of DCM in eutrophic and dystrophic lakes.

Global Rather Than Vertical‐Selective Saccadic Abnormalities in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To test whether vertical saccades are preferentially affected in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Methods PSP patients (n = 24) were compared to age‐matched controls (n = 94) and two degenerative groups (Alzheimer's disease, n = 20; Lewy body disease, n = 50).

Vertical variation in leaf functional traits of Parashorea chinensis with different canopy layers

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionCanopy species need to shift their ecological adaptation to improve light and water resources utilization, and the study of intraspecific variations in plant leaf functional traits based at individual scale is of great significance for ...

Stage‐Dependent β‐Synuclein Links MRI and Cognitive Decline in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Synaptic degeneration drives cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease (AD), but synaptic biomarkers are scarce. Brain‐enriched β‐synuclein emerged as a synaptic damage marker. We investigated its diagnostic, prognostic, and structural correlates across the AD continuum.

White Matter and Perivascular Imaging Changes in Alzheimer's Disease and Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Peak‐width of skeletonized mean diffusivity (PSMD) and diffusion tensor imaging–analysis along the perivascular space (DTI‐ALPS), reflecting white matter integrity and glymphatic function, are altered in Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Vertical distribution and trophic structure of the macrozooplankton in a shallow temperate estuary (Ria de Aveiro, Portugal)

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2006
The zooplankton of the lower part of Canal de Mira (Ria de Aveiro) was sampled during one lunar month. The sampling programme consisted of nine 25 hour fixed-cycles, separated weekly. In each cycle, samples were collected every two hours at three depths (

Prevalence of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Australia, 2010–2022: A Population‐Based Study Using Linked National Administrative Health Data

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogenous inflammatory condition with widely varying global prevalence estimates. The frequency of SLE in the general population of Australia has been reported to be notably lower than contemporary estimates in countries such as the United States or United Kingdom, at 19 to 39 per 100,000 as opposed ...

Risk of Retinopathy Associated with Long‐Term Use of Hydroxychloroquine in Patients with Rheumatic Diseases: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We aimed to estimate the prevalence and cumulative incidence of hydroxychloroquine retinopathy (HCQ‐R) and its risk factors among patients receiving long‐term HCQ with rheumatic diseases through a systematic review and meta‐analysis of observational studies that used spectral‐domain optical coherence tomography (SD‐OCT) for screening ...

Vertical Distribution and Migration Patterns of Nautilus pompilius

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Vertical depth migrations into shallower waters at night by the chambered cephalopod Nautilus were first hypothesized early in the early 20(th) Century. Subsequent studies have supported the hypothesis that Nautilus spend daytime hours at depth and only ascend to around 200 m at night.
