From Grave to Cradle: Kombucha Waste for Sustainable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces a sustainable method to purify kombucha bacterial cellulose (KBC) with sodium bicarbonate and hydrogen peroxide, avoiding harsh chemicals. KBC films are patterned with gold and function as pressure sensors for flatfoot gait detection. At the end‐of‐life, the KBC‐based device biodegrades in soil, leaving environmentally benign gold

A Versatile Three Dimensional Traction Force Microscopy Framework for Uncovering the Mechanics of Bio‐Adhesion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces a versatile platform for quantifying three dimensional traction forces at bio‐adhesive interfaces. Integrating in situ stereo‐digital image correlation with finite element simulations allows for precise measurement of microscale displacements and traction forces in both dry and wet conditions.

Fast Thermoelectric Responses from Unconventional Na‐I Stoichiometry in Reduced Graphene Oxide Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By coating the graphene oxide suspension and the dilute NaI solution layer‐by‐layer from bottom up, this work achieves a heterogeneous structure from asymmetry of the up and bottom surface Na and I atomic ratios in reduced graphene oxide (rGO) films, which exhibits fast thermoelectric responses.

Experimental Joint Estimation of Phase and Phase Diffusion Via Deterministic Bell Measurements

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work employs Bell measurement, a form of entangling measurement, to estimate both the phase and its fluctuations in an optical interferometer. By incorporating a novel quantum effect at the measurement stage, the proposed method achieves the ultimate precision limit and demonstrates the significant potential of entangling measurements in multi ...

GEOID-QUASIGEOID CORRECTION IN FORMULATION OF THE FUNDAMENTAL FORMULA OF PHYSICAL GEODESY

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Cartografia, 2006
To formulate the fundamental formula of physical geodesy at the physical surface of the Earth, the gravity anomalies are used instead of the gravity disturbances, because the geodetic heights above the geocentric reference ellipsoid are not usually ...

A Shear Thickening Colloidal Suspension Functioning via Progressive Impact Jamming with Persistent Lubrication Layer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An ionic liquid‐based shear‐thickening fluid (ILSTF) exhibits lubricated dynamics from strong shear thickening to impact‐triggered jamming. A persistent nanometric solvation layer around silica governs both the shear thickening saturation in rheology and jamming front propagation under dynamic impact compression.

Scrambling‐Enhanced Quantum Battery Charging in Black Hole Analogues

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By employing a black‐hole‐analog quantum battery constructed from a position‐dependent XY model, its dynamical behavior is investigated through a quench of the scrambling parameter. It is systematically quantified that how the simulated scrambling improves key performance metrics‐namely, stored energy, peak power, and charging time‐thereby offering a ...

Evaporation‐Driven Solutal Marangoni Control of Rayleigh–Taylor Instability in Inverted Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inverted liquid films, like paint on a ceiling, are inherently unstable under gravity. This work shows that selective evaporation in volatile binary mixtures generates solutal Marangoni stresses that either suppress or amplify the Rayleigh Taylor instability.

Quantifying of spatio-temporal variations in the regional gravity field and the effectiveness of earthquake prediction: A case study of MS ≥ 5.0 earthquakes in the Sichuan-Yunnan region during 2021–2024Key points

open access: yesEarthquake Science
Since the 1975 MS7.3 Haicheng earthquake, spatio-temporal variations in the gravity field have attracted much attention as potential earthquake precursors.
