Phase space tracking of coupled-bunch instabilities

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 1999
We describe an instability diagnostic that exploits the information contained in the angular evolution of coupled-bunch oscillations in phase space. In addition to enabling measurement of coherent tunes and bunch tunes with accuracy of a few hertz, phase

Bio‐Inspired Magnetically Tunable Structural Colors from Elliptical Self‐Assembled Block Copolymer Microparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cephalopod‐inspired photonic microparticles with dynamic structural coloration are fabricated via confined self‐assembly of linear block copolymers into ellipsoids containing stacked lamellae. Embedded superparamagnetic nanoparticles enable rapid magnetic alignment, restoring vivid, angle‐dependent color.

Beware of Inertial Instability Masquerading as Gravity Waves in Stratospheric Temperature Perturbations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
Rapp, Dörnbrack, and Preusse (2018, https://doi.org/10.1029/2018GL079142) uses radio occultation observations and meteorological data from the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting to quantify the effect of inertial instability on ...

Poly(lactic‐co‐glycolic acid) Nanoparticles for IL‐12 Self‐Amplifying RNA Delivery in Glioblastoma Models

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
xxxx. ABSTRACT Glioblastoma (GBM) remains one of the most lethal brain cancers, with median survival rarely exceeding 15 months after diagnosis. Interleukin‐12 (IL‐12) is a potent immunostimulatory cytokine capable of reshaping the tumor microenvironment (TME), yet its clinical translation is hindered by systemic toxicity and short half‐life. RNA‐based

From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

Understanding the Role of Superhydrophobicity and Superhydrophilicity in Salt‐Spray Corrosion of Nanosecond Pulsed Laser‐Textured AA2024 Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nanosecond pulse laser texturing yields superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic AA2024 surfaces. Salt‐spray tests show that periodic superhydrophobic patterns suppress pitting, whereas superhydrophilic textures enhance it, linking laser‐induced morphology, wettability, and oxide chemistry to corrosion resistance.

Experimental Evaluation of the Instability Threshold of Vertical Cylindrical Vessels

open access: yesScientific Bulletin of Valahia University: Materials and Mechanics
The present paper presents an experimental analysis of the structural behavior of vertical cylindrical vessels subjected to increasing axial loads, with the aim of determining the critical instability threshold.

Baroclinic instability with a simple model for vertical mixing Baroclinic instability with a simple model for vertical mixing

open access: yes, 2019
Here, we examine baroclinic instability in the presence of vertical mixing in an idealized setting. Specifically, we use a simple model for vertical mixing of momentum and buoyancy and expand the buoyancy and vorticity in a series for small Rossby numbers.

Interfacial and Crystallographic Regulation of Zinc Anode via Electric Double Layer Reconstruction for Highly Stable Zn Anode

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Trace amounts of perfluoro‐1‐butanesulfonyl fluoride enables the regulation of the Zn/electrolyte interface by the generated zincophilic ─SO3H groups with long hydrophobic ─CF2 tails, which adsorb strongly onto the Zn surface, displace water molecules from the inner Helmholtz plane, and reconstruct the electrical double‐layer structure.
