Surgical Management for Vertical Maxillary Excess

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America, 2023
Orthognathic surgery is an effective approach to correct vertical maxillary excess (VME), which is a common maxillofacial deformity and exhibits excessive vertical development of maxilla. This review summarizes different clinical features of total, anterior and posterior VME, as well as corresponding surgical managements guided by preoperative computer-

Surgical Correction of Vertical Maxillary Excess: A Re-Evaluation

Journal of Maxillofacial Surgery, 1982
Correction of vertical maxillary excess by Le Fort I osteotomy has become a widely accepted practice. Although the downfracture method is used almost exclusively in most major centres, the total maxillary alveolar osteotomy still has its advocates. Two patients surgically treated by total maxillary alveolar osteotomy and presented in this journal are ...

Variations of Total Vertical Maxillary Excess

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1985
The long-face syndrome is a well-recognized entity, yet the pathogenesis of this malformation remains obscure and variations are generally not recognized. Fifty lateral cephalometric radiographs of patients who underwent vertical maxillary reductions were studied using the architectural and structural analysis of Delaire.

Surgical-Orthodontic Correction of Vertical Maxillary Excess

American Journal of Orthodontics, 1978
Superior repositioning of the maxilla via maxillary ostectomy has proved to be useful method of treating patients with vertical maxillary excess. It is indicated primarily in patients with lip incompetence, excessive exposure of maxillary anterior teeth, long lower facial height, contour-deficient chin, and either Class I or Class II malocclusion.

Predictability of Mandibular Autorotation After Le Fort I Maxillary Impaction in Case of Vertical Maxillary Excess

open access: yesJournal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2019
Abstract A retrospective study of 20 patients treated for vertical maxillary excess between 2009 and 2010, solely by superior surgical repositioning of the maxilla. Clinical and radiological cephalometric parameters were analyzed statistically and their impact on achieving the predicted postoperative mandibular autorotation and

Modification of LeFort I Osteotomy for Severe Maxillary Vertical Excess Asymmetry

British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 2019
A superfluous maxillary alveolus exacerbates excess of the vertical maxilla, and leads to a severe form of deformity. This poses a unique surgical challenge. In such conditions, the dimensions of the maxilla cephalad to the anterior nasal spine are normal, which limits superior repositioning of the maxilla when done in a conventional manner.
