Buoyant Couette–Bingham flow between vertical parallel plates
International Journal of Thermal Sciences, 2008Abstract The present paper is closely related to a recent work of Bayazitoglu et al. [Y. Bayazitoglu, P.R. Paslay, P. Cernocky, Laminar Bingham fluid flow between vertical parallel plates, Int. J. Thermal Sci. 46 (2007) 349–357], in which the free convection of a Bingham material in a vertical parallel plane channel with a constant temperature ...

Pure Steam Condensation Experiments on Nonisothermal Vertical Plates
Journal of Heat Transfer, 1992Pure steam condensation experiments on flat channel plates have been performed. To provide a range of values of the governing groups NTU and Ad, steam was condensed crosscurrentwise on polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) plates and cocurrentwise on brass plates (8.0 × 10−6 ≤ Ad ≤ 8.4 × 10−2, 0 ≤ NTU−1 ≤ 10). The theoretical predictions, based on an analysis

Boundary-Layer Flow on a Vertical Plate
The Physics of Fluids, 1968The motion of a film of viscous incompressible fluid running down a semi-infinite vertical plate under the influence of gravity is considered. The problem is to determine how the final asymptotic shear flow is achieved when the fluid is introduced at the leading edge with uniform velocity.

TURBULENT FREE CONVECTION FROM A VERTICAL, ISOTHERMAL PLATE
Numerical Heat Transfer, 1978The temperature and velocity fields adjacent to an isothermal, vertical plate have been calculated by finite-difference methods using the time-averaged equations of conservation. Effective diffusivities for turbulent transfer were computed from differential balances for the turbulent kinetic energy and the rate of dissipation of turbulent energy, using

Free Convection About Vertical Circular Plate
Journal of Thermophysics and Heat Transfer, 2009This paper reports on a study of a three-dimensional numerical solution of free convection of air about a vertical circular plate for isothermal and isoflux heating conditions. The governing equations were solved in a vorticity and vector potential formulation. Fluid is drawn toward the heated plate from the bottom and the front of it.

Effect of Using Vertical Plates on Vertical Intake on Discharge Coefficient
Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, 2014Formation of the vortex at the dams creates the air entrainment to the intakes and reduces the dewatering capacity of the system (in case of insufficient submergence of the intake). One of the common methods to preventing the air entrance and reducing the power of the vortex is the using of the meshed plates.

The Draining of a Vertical Plate
Mathematical Proceedings of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, 1930When a vessel of liquid has been emptied and put aside, a thin film of liquid clings to the inside and gradually drains down to the bottom under the action of gravity. The layer being thin, the motion is very nearly laminar flow, and the curvature of the surface in a horizontal direction may be ignored.

Load-Displacement Relationship for Vertical Anchor Plates
Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1975Recent studies on shallow vertical anchors have been primarily concerned with the ultimate pullout capacity of the anchor and have not concerned themselves with the load-displacement relationship. In bulkheads or other lateral load bearing structures where vertical anchors are used, tolerable displacement may impose restrictions on the design load. The

Natural Convection Along a Finite Vertical Plate
Journal of Heat Transfer, 1987The discrepancy between the measured mean heat flux for natural convection on a finite vertical plate and the solution of Pohlhausen, Schmidt, and Beckmann has been known for a long time; no theoretical explanation has ever been provided. In this paper, a double-deck structure is introduced to account for the trailing-edge effect.

Free convection past a vertical plate
