Lateral and Vertical Heterostructures of Transition Metal Dichalcogenides [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry C, 2018
In this paper we investigate periodic lateral and vertical heterostructures of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). Lateral heterostructures are constructed by the alternating metallic and semiconducting single-layer stripes of TMDs joined commensurately along their armchair edges and attain different states depending on the widths of constituents.

Model, Control, and Realistic Visual 3D Simulation of VTOL Fixed-Wing Transition Flight Considering Ground Effect

open access: yesDrones, 2023
The research topic of VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) fixed wing (VFW) is gaining significant attention, particularly in the transition phase from VTOL to fixed wing and vice versa. One of the latest and most challenging transition strategies is the

Transition Curves in Vertical Alignment as a Method for Reducing Fuel Consumption

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2014
This paper presents a new approach to the fuel consumption reduction. This approach is based on vertical curve designs based on transition curves. The work presents selected curves, which are used for this purpose.

Finite Element Modeling of Direct Transition from Concrete Pavement to Asphalt Pavement

open access: yesTecnoLógicas, 2022
The origin of premature distress in direct transitions from Portland cement concrete pavement (PCCP) to asphalt concrete pavement (ACP) constructed as part of TransMilenio pavement repairs has not been investigated and the related literature is limited ...

Morphological Transitions of Water Channels Induced by Vertical Vibrations [PDF]

open access: yesLangmuir, 2018
We report the results of comprehensive experiments and numerical calculations of interfacial morphologies of water confined to the hydrophilic top face of rectangular posts subjected to vertical vibrations. In response to mechanical driving, an initially flat liquid channel is collected into a liquid bulge that forms in the center of the rectangular ...

Taylor bubble moving in a flowing liquid in vertical channel: transition from symmetric to asymmetric shape [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The velocity and shape of Taylor bubbles moving in a vertical channel in a Poiseuille liquid flow were studied for the inertial regime, characterized by large Reynolds numbers.

Enhanced Hover Control of Quad Tilt Frame UAV under Windy Conditions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2015
A key research subject in the area of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is how to make them autonomous. Towards this goal, the most vital step is stabilizing the attitude of the vehicles. This paper presents the design of an autonomous control system for a

Transitions in the horizontal transport of vertically vibrated granular layers [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 1999
Motivated by recent advances in the investigation of fluctuation-driven ratchets and flows in excited granular media, we have carried out experimental and simulational studies to explore the horizontal transport of granular particles in a vertically vibrated system whose base has a sawtooth-shaped profile.

Vertical MOSFETs for high performance, low cost CMOS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
-We present a review of recent reports on vertical MOSFETs which includes a summary of our own research in this area. Such devices can offer a decananometer channel length in a relaxed lithography. Furthermore, the footprint is substantially smaller than
