A Broadband Vertical Transition for Millimeter-Wave Applications
2008 38th European Microwave Conference, 2008This paper reports on a broadband vertical transition, which shows superior characteristics from DC up to 85 GHz. The design and analysis of the novel transition are presented. The proposed transition is practicable in low cost substrates and requires only three vias, which ensures compact and easy realization.

Innovations to the Vertical Reduction Mammaplasty: Making the Transition
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 2003The vertical reduction mammaplasty can be challenging to learn. In addition, first attempts to perform the vertical reduction mammaplasty can lead to inconsistent aesthetic results. The authors describe their transition from a traditional inverted-T reduction mammaplasty to a modified vertical reduction mammaplasty based on a technique described by ...

Vertical gradient of pulmonary capillary transit times
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1986The key determinants of alveolar capillary perfusion are transit times and the extent of recruitment. Capillaries are known to be heavily recruited in the dependent lung, but there are no direct data that bear on how capillary transit times might be affected by gravity.

Comparison of Vertical Alignments for Rail Transit
Journal of Transportation Engineering, 2013AbstractIn this paper two vertical alignment profiles (labeled dipped and undipped) connecting rail transit stations with different elevations are compared. A deterministic simulation model is developed and used to analyze train motion and energy use for three different vertical alignments.

Transition on a Partially Heated Vertical Wall
Heat Transfer Engineering, 2010Transition from laminar to turbulent flow, on a partially heated vertical wall (an adiabatic wall on top of an isothermal wall), was numerically and experimentally analyzed. The main objective was to find the location of the beginning and end of the transition based on the frequency spectra of the temperature signals obtained with a two-dimensional ...

A vertical waveguide-to-suspended stripline transition
2014 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium (APSURSI), 2014A vertical E-plane waveguide-to-suspended stripline transition in the Ku band using a single dielectric substrate is presented. Inserting a resonator into the waveguide eliminates the need for a quarter-wave back-short. Using stacked patches as the resonator and increasing the separation between the resonator and the ground improve the bandwidth. A low

Noise-driven wave transitions on a vertically falling film
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2002We decipher the rich and complex two-dimensional wave transition and evolution dynamics on a falling film both theoretically and numerically. Small-amplitude white noise at the inlet is filtered by the classical linear instability into a narrow Gaussian band of primary frequency harmonics centred about ωm.

Transition to the convective regime in a vertical slot
International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1985Abstract The break-down of the conductive regime in a laterally heated vertical slot is shown to be associated with the inward penetration of nonlinear convective effects from the ends of the slot. This penetration can occur in two quite distinct ways, depending on the Prandtl number of the fluid and the aspect ratio of the slot.

On transition mechanisms in vertical natural convection flow
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1974An experimental investigation has been made of the processes occurring during the natural transition from laminar to turbulent flow of natural convection flow of water adjacent to a flat vertical surface where the surface heat flux is uniform. Measurements of both the velocity and temperature fields were made over wide ranges of the heat flux and at ...

Vertical Electron Transitions in Rydberg Radicals
1998Abstract Oscillator strengths and Einstein emission coefficients for several Rydberg radicals are reported. The Quantum Defect Orbital (QDO) method has been employed, and comparison is made with the results of more complex theorical procedures.
