Three-Dimensional Dynamic Finite Element Modeling of Transition Zones in Ballasted High-Speed Tracks. [PDF]

open access: yesJES: Journal of Engineering Sciences
Transition zones in railway tracks, where vertical stiffness changes abruptly such as between ballasted tracks and rigid structures like culverts or bridges, pose significant challenges in high-speed rail lines.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Vertical Co-ordanitaion in Transition Agriculture: a Hungarian Cooperative Case Study [PDF]

open access: yes
The agriculture is traditional risky business, but in transition countries agricultural producers should face some additional difficulties. The agri-food chains are still suffering from underdeveloped market institutions creating severe barriers for ...

Investigating the Influence of Auxiliary Rails on Dynamic Behavior of Railway Transition Zone by a 3D Train-Track Interaction Model

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
Abrupt track vertical stiffness variations along railway tracks can lead to increased dynamic loads, asymmetric deformations, damaged track components, and consequently, increased maintenance costs.

The use of Strong Magnetic Field Treatment for Preparation of Proton Exchange Membrane Doped by SeO2 and its electrochemical properties

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2017
48% sulfonation degree SPEEK membranes were prepared with rare earth nanoparticles doped and strong horizontal and vertical magnetic field treatment. The experimental results show that the dopant evenly dispersed in the matrix, and took place acid-base ...

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Vertical upward flow patterns in small diameter tubes

open access: yes, 2005
Two-phase flow patterns were studied in vertical small diameter tubes using R134a as the working fluid. The observed flow patterns include bubbly, dispersed bubble, confined bubble, slug, churn, annular and mist flow.

Cubic vertex-transitive graphs on up to 1280 vertices

open access: yesJournal of Symbolic Computation, 2013
A graph is called cubic and tetravalent if all of its vertices have valency 3 and 4, respectively. It is called vertex-transitive and arc-transitive if its automorphism group acts transitively on its vertex-set and on its arc- set, respectively. In this paper, we combine some new theoretical results with computer calculations to construct all cubic ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.
