Microstructure, Defects, and Fatigue Response of High‐Strength Tool Steels

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The martensitic tool steel family is designed for use in various working environments where they are subjected to repeatedly high mechanical loads. Despite the continuous upgrade of material´s microstructures through compositional development or processing techniques, defects remain a critical factor for the tool performance by leading to fatigue ...

VHCF Response up to 109 Cycles of SLM AlSi10Mg Specimens Built in a Vertical Direction

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
It is well-known that many manufacturing parameters affect the quasi-static and the fatigue response of additive manufacturing (AM) parts. In particular, due to the layer-by-layer production, the load orientation, with respect to the building direction ...

Ultrasonic Fatigue Device and Behavior of High-Temperature Superalloy Inconel 718 with Self-Heating Phenomenon

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Ultrasonic resonance fatigue test method at 20 kHz related to the very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) aims to accelerate a time-consuming experiment. In this paper, an ultrasonic fatigue device with a data acquisition system was improved for monitoring and ...

Concrete with a very high number of load cycles—Identification of stress levels for efficient investigation of fatigue behavior

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract Fatigue stresses are receiving increasing attention in structural engineering, particularly in the design of increasingly slender structures. However, the mechanical response of concrete—particularly its fatigue behavior under very high numbers of load cycles—is still scarcely understood.

Increasing the Reuse Potential of High‐Strength Steels by Extending the Fatigue Life through Surface Treatments

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 97, Issue 8, Page 4326-4336, August 2026.
Surface reconditioning through mechanical and electrochemical polishing is shown to extend the fatigue life of predamaged 42CrMo4 steel by over 12 times. By removing ≈100 μm of surface material, surface‐driven fatigue damage is mitigated. This study introduces a reuse potential metric to evaluate fatigue recovery and support sustainable steel reuse. Effect of Surface Mechanical Attrition Treatment on the very high cycle fatigue behavior of TC11

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
As an important engine component material, TC11 (Ti-6.5Al-3.5Mo-1.5Zr-0.3Si) titanium alloy is subjected to high frequency cyclic loading and its failure occurs beyond 109 cycles.

Using Multiple Regression Models and Methods to Estimate Fatigue‐Life Distributions and Construct Constant‐Life Diagrams

open access: yesApplied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry, Volume 42, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
ABSTRACT Fatigue is the most common reliability failure mechanism and has been studied widely since the 19th century. Material specimens are used in laboratory experiments to obtain fatigue test data. An S‐N curve is used to depict the relationship between the stress (or strain) S$$ S $$ and the number of cycles to failure N$$ N $$. Statistical methods

Influences on the Fatigue Strength of Laser‐Welded High‐Purity Copper Connections

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 48, Issue 10, Page 4148-4160, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Due to their excellent conducting properties, components made of high‐purity copper are increasingly being used in the field of electrified applications. In particular for components with welded joints made of high‐purity copper, there is still no computational basis for evaluating the fatigue strength of these joints.

Effect of long-period stacking ordered structure on very high cycle fatigue properties of Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloys

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2023
Magnesium alloys with a long-period stacking ordered (LPSO) structure usually possess excellent static strength, but their fatigue behaviors are poorly understood. This work presents the effect of the LPSO structure on the crack behaviors of Mg alloys in

Very High Cycle Fatigue Performance of Ductile Cast Iron With Different Microstructures

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 48, Issue 9, Page 3950-3966, September 2025.
ABSTRACT The very high cycle fatigue performance of four ductile cast irons, a solid solution strengthened ferritic, ferritic‐pearlitic, and two austempered ductile cast irons, was investigated by ultrasonic fatigue testing under fully reversed loading conditions. The step‐stress fatigue testing method incorporating re‐use of runouts was employed, with
